Welcome to the "Grünauer Rittertage". A medieval themed faire with enacted Knight tourneys, peasent battles, historic themend tents, food and costumes located in Jagdschloss Grünau close to Neuburg.
We were looking for a family-themed trip to spend fathers day with our two kids somewhere with a bit of action and decided to give this one a chance. The price of admission was free for kids below 6 years and adults had to pay 9 Euros for a day ticket. Overall quite fair in our opinion.
The surroundings of the castle and the marketplace in the courtyard were very well prepared and decorated in a medieval style with the actors living and sleeping on the grounds for the duration in a medieval-themed atmosphere.
While walking around the grounds is very nice, you can also enjoy some foodstuff with a history going back ~300 years called "Schneballen" which is kind of like dough that's been fried and combined with chocolate and nuts
If you are more into dance and music, you can watch authentic dances from the middle ages:
If you are interested, you can also participate in
Archery
The price was okay with every participant having to pay 3 Euro for 6 arrows and with luck, you even received a bit of instruction on what to look out for while practicing.
Or visit the
Birds of Prey exhibition
This one was a bit of a mixed bag as you could see, that the birds were not that comfortable being chained on the ground and put on every paying customer's arm to take pictures. But it was nonetheless very interesting for our daughter to see them from up close.
...or sit down and watch the
Knights tourney
Luckily our son was sleeping at the time and our daughter was so fascinated by the knights she spend the event glued to the fence. So we had the time to take a picture together:-)
The final highlight of the day was a battle reenactment of a band of peasants rebelling against their noble overlords because of a slight between the peoples' foremen and a lord's son. At least that's the way they told the story
Field battle
We enjoyed our time there and considered it a day well spent. Consider stopping by if you happen to be in the area during the next event.
