With the sunrise at around 5 o'clock, the sound of chickens and the ducks woke us up. Additionally, it got very hot and therefore our sleep has ended. After breakfast, we decided to do a small road trip around the area.
Our first stop was on the way from Bovec to Trenta by Soca river, where Steffen took a first swim in the cold water to wake up. The water is super, freezing (only the brave ones swim there) because its source comes from under the mountain in a cave we later went to visit.
After a quick brunch from a local shop, we headed to Great Soča gorge located near Trenta village. There was packed with people and children jumping from the rocks into the crystal clear water. All this crowded places are not something we are looking for, therefore we continued our journey by the river.
Our next stop was outside the same village where the river Soča is born. That is a must-see thing if you come to visit this valley. The road goes through forest, and you need to have some courage to climb some rocks to reach the cave with beautiful emerald colors. Because of this hot summer and lack of rain, the level of water is so low, that you have to climb inside the mountain to see the spring. Watching the water causes the feeling of calmness, and it feels really magical. Brave Steffen was once again to take a quick swim in the water pool. Here the river is deadly cold, so the swim lasted only a few seconds. There is nice nature around and again lots of tourist.
We continued the road to Vršič pass (1,611 m) to reach the other valley. It takes lots of curves to reach the highest pass in the Eastern Julian Alps. We have seen lots of bikers struggling to reach there. On top there was a very cool view, and it's a starting point for hikers to visit mountain tops. There was a group of poor sheeps trying to find some shadow under parked cars. The heat is not their friend as well.
From there we arrived to Kranjska gora which is another bigger town in the Alps but in different region of Slovenia. It's know for it's skiing station. We visited the Lake Jasna where we finally swam the whole lake to the other side. The temperature of the water was very pleasant and refreshing. We later went to a nice forest nearby, where we cooked our late lunch (lots of vegetables and pasta).
The last stop was only few kilometers from there in village Podkoren. There is a natural reserve called Zelenci springs. Therefore, it's not freezing in the winter. It's a swamp all around with a green green lake in the middle. From there also the name derives. The water is very amazing. It's amazing for visiting in the winter time as lake is bot frozen and it's insane contrast.
On the way back home we stopped for the sunset to fly the drone and catch some beautiful images.
At the end of the day we were very exhausted as it was quite a long trip. Maybe it's good to take two days to visit all this and take more time to relax by the lake.
