Hello, dear friends!

With great joy, this morning I managed to make this post about a place that is not very well known, but in my opinion, is really beautiful to visit. It was a coincidence for me because I was nearby for work, and right there lives my cousin, who took me to visit this place, knowing my passion for small villages.

Today I’m talking about Greppolungo, a small village in the municipality of Camaiore in the province of Lucca, located on a rocky spur about 350 meters above sea level.

It was once the site of a castle built back in the 1100s. In fact, the first thing I wanted to do was explore these ancient ruins, though unfortunately, I didn’t find anything of the ruins. Most likely, over the years, they were either completely destroyed or incorporated into the construction of the village’s houses.

As usual, I explored this village entirely on foot, and when I arrived, as usual, I didn’t find anyone, and at first glance, it seemed abandoned. However, upon observing the houses, I realized that some people do live here permanently.

The first place, the first point of interest from a tourist perspective, was the Church of the Nativity of Mary and St. Joseph, with its characteristic bell-tower greeting me as soon as I arrived.

So, I walked around a bit, and I have to say that the path winding through the village was quite lovely to follow, though at times a bit challenging, but it offered a beautiful view of the entire valley. This place has become a popular destination for hikers because there are many trails that lead to Mount Gabberi, and these routes offer spectacular views, but more importantly, they provide a wonderful immersive experience in nature and the Tuscan woods.

I took several photos of the various houses here in the village, but I was actually looking for another attraction: some rock carvings. However, I couldn’t find any trace of them, nor any signs indicating their presence.

In conclusion, I can say that this was another great discovery, and I hope you enjoyed the photos I shared. I hope you will discover this place for yourselves in the future. I wish you a great day, and I’ll see you next time!
