I went to see another Art Nouveau building. The previous one was the artery of Prague train transport - the Main Railway Station
This building serves as the centre of cultural events in Vinohrady. It is probably not the most famous theatre in Prague. But in my opinion, it is one of the nicer ones. It is the Vinohrady Theatre, located on Náměstí Míru.

Tento objekt slouží coby centrum kulturního dění na Vinohradech. Nejedná se zřejmě o to nejznámější pražské divadlo. Dle mého názoru ale patří k těm hezčím. Jedná se o Vinohradské divadlo, které se nachází na Náměstí Míru.

Outdoors / Venky
The majestic sculptures on the roof reveal that this is no ordinary townhouse.
Majestátné sochy na střeše o budově prozrazují, že se nejedná o obyčejný měšťanský dům.

Second hint are the old-town lighting lamps and the copper shelter over the main entrance, with its typical green patina.
Druhé vodítko jsou dobové lampy veřejného osvětlení a měděný přístřešek nad hlavním vstupem, s typickou zelenou patinou.

The gable of the building is decorated with the stucco coat of arms of Vinohrady and four statues on the balcony below.
Štít budovy zdobý štukový erb Vinohrad a čtveřice soch na balkónu pod nim.

The balcony with a cornice and a dentil cut is surmounted by four stone columns. Between them are magnificent arched windows with mascarrons at their tops and varied stucco decoration in the surfaces.
Balkon s římsou a zubořezem vynáší čtveřice kamenných sloupů. Mezi nimi jsou velkolepá oblouková okna s maskarony u jejich vrcholů a rozmanitá štuková výzdoba v plochách.

However, if you thought that the Vinohrady Theatre is the dominant feature of Náměstí Míru, you probably overlooked the Church of St. Ludmila.
Pokud jste si ale mysleli, že Vinohradské divadlo je dominantou Náměstí míru, zřejmě jste přehlédli kostel sv. Ludmili.

Again the same detail, in which the bossage, semi-columns and the impression of the richly decorated façade in the side street stand out.
Opět stejný detail, ve kterém vyniká bosáž, polosloupy a dojem z bohatě zdobené fasády ve vedlejší ulici.

View of the moulding from the perspective of a pedestrian. At almost any hour, it's an enchanting play of shadows.
Pohled na římsu z perspektivy chodce. Téměř v kteroukoliv hodinu je to okouzlující hra stínů.

To sum up, there is probably no house in Vinohrady that is ugly. The leftmost corner is the Vinohrady Theatre, which is surrounded by equally tall apartment buildings.
Když to shrnu, na Vinohradech snad není dům, který by byl hnusný. Nejvíce vlevo je roh Vinohradského divadla, které obklopují stejně vysoké činžovní domy.

Lounge / Salónek ve druhém patře
This is probably not the most beautiful thing you can see in the interior (I'll save that for the end of this topic), but it is a beautiful representative room.
To the right you can see the arched windows mentioned once before. These then look out into the heart of the square - right onto the Basilica of St. Ludmila.
Tohle není zřejmě to nejkrásnější, co můžete v interiéru vidět (to si nechám nakonec), ale jde o překrásnou reprezentativní místnost.
Po pravé straně můžete spatřit již jednou zmíněná oblouková okna. Z nich se potom naskytuje výhled do srdce náměstí - přímo na baziliku svaté Ludmili.

But what first strikes your eye is not the large windows. But the chandelier!
Co Vás ale poprvé praští do očí nejsou velká okna. Ale lustr!

Two chandeliers... golden. There's more than enough of that in the room. Gold-plated decorative grille from the air-conditioning vent, centered on the mirror by the comfortable seating. The gilded corridor railing under the vaulted ceiling. Gold polychromed lines of stucco decoration...
Dva lustry... ze zlata. Toho je v místnosti více než dost. Pozlacená ozdobná mřížka od výdechu vzduchotechniky, uprostřed zrcadla u pohodleného posezení. Pozlacené zábradlí koridoru pod stropem klenbového stropu. Zlatem polychromované linky štukové dekorace.

Also unmissable are the mosaics set in repeating patterns in the terrazzo floor. I'm not sure if these stripes also had an expansion feature, either way, cracking is evident in multiple places and these floors have seen their best days.
Nepřehlédnutelné jsou také mozaiky zasazené v opakujících se vzorech v teracové podlaze. Nejsem si jistý, zda měli tyto pruhy i dilatační vlastnost, každopádně je patrné popraskání na více místech a mají již tyto podlahy to nejlepší za sebou.

The room also has woodwork and a glass doors. The interior is therefore a combination of terrazzo, marble, gold, glass and wood.
V místnosti se nachází i truhlářské prvky a prosklené dveře. Interiér je tedy kombinace teracca, mramoru, zlata, skla a dřeva.

The impressiveness of the ornate chandeliers and vaulted ceiling is best enjoyed from the third floor corridor.
Impozantnost zdobených lustrů a kleneb stropu si nejlépe vychutnáte z koridoru ve třetím patře.

The corridors are what one would expect from an early nineteenth century theatre. Practical and spare.
Chodby jsou takové, jaké bychom od divadla z počátku devatenáctého století čekali. Praktické a střídmé.

But what surprised me very much was this marble memorial plaque. It says that the city district of Královské Vinohrady contributed to the construction of this theatre. In other words, something imposible in these days.
At the moment, a major reconstruction is planned, which would not be financed by the budget of the whole of Prague and will not be possible without European subsidies.
We live in the shadow of the prosperous Prague of the First Republic era.
edit: fact check - Prague have a budget of more than 100 billion. Given the phasing of construction, it could therefore reconstruct about 100 such theatres. Taking into account the fact that there will be no funds left for cleaning, public lighting, security, operation of hospitals, schools and other public amenities and other reconstructions...
Co mne ale velmi překvapilo, byla tato mramorová pamětní deska. Píše se na ní, že se na stavbu tohoto divadla složila městská část Královské Vinohrady. Jinými slovy v dnešních dní, něco nemyslitelného.
Momentálně je naplánovaná velká rekonstrukce, kterou by naufinancoval ani rozpočet celé Prahy a neobejde se bez evropských dotací.
Žijeme již jen ve stínu staré a prosperující Prahy.

If we looking at the plaque and busts, we have a glass wall in the back. Behind is the lounge, on the second floor, which we have already visited. And again, a view of St. Ludmila's Church in the middle of Vinohrady Square.
Při prohlížení pamětní desky a bust máme v zádech prosklenou stěnu do salónku, ve druhém patře, který jsme již navštívili. A opět výhled na kostel svaté Ludmili uprostřed vinohradského náměstí.

We are not surprised that all the doors we find here are wooden, coffered with decorative frames. Typical doors of their time.
Nepřekvapí nás, že veškeré dveře, které zde najdeme jsou dřevěné, kazetové se zdobnými zárubněmi. Typické dveře pro svojí dobu.

Most of them are demaged or have been marked by shoddy repairs. In this photo, for example, each wing has a different self-closer. The kick plates are broken off, the moulding is cracked and the brass fittings could do with some care too.
Většina z nich je dožilá, stejně jako červený koberec, nebo jsou poznamenané nešetrnými opravami. Na této fotografii má například každé křídlo jiný samozavírač. Jsou vylomené okopové plechy, popraskané fládrování a mosazné kování by si také zasloužilo péči.

Around staircase we have again the proven combination of terrazzo, gold, glass and marble. Again, numerous damages are visible at first glance. Cracks and broken corners of the marble staircase arm, damaged granite steps and the chandelier also does not shine as it should.
U schodiště máme opět osvědčenou kombinaci teraca, zlata, skla a mramoru. Opět jsou na první pohled patrná četná poškození. Praskliny a ulámané rohy mramorového ramena schodiště, poškozené žulové stupně a lustr také nesvítí, jak by měl.

If we are talking about light and you are already impressed by the chandelier in the lounge... then you will admit that this chandelier is in a different league.
Pokud je řeč o světle a udělal na Vás dojem už lustr v salónku... tak uznáte, že tento lustr je jiná liga.

The coat of arms of Vinohrady again appears above the curtain, surrounded by stucco motifs of angels and rich polychrome decoration.
Nad oponou se opět vyjímá erb Vinohrad, který je obklopen štukovými motivy andělů a bohatou polychromovanou výzdobou.

The interior of the hall literally shines and the combination of lighting and gilded stucco decoration is breathtaking.
