I started this walk at the eastern gate of Grafenegg castle

Grafenegg castle

The castle was built in the 19th century in "romantic historical" style, but there has already been a castle at that site in 1294. The castle has been replaced, rebuilt or converted several times.

The castle is well known for concerts and the "Grafenegger Advent", a big christmas market, and other cultural activities.

The "Wolkenturm" is a modern open air arena in the park around the castle. The arena was built in 2007. Every summer the Grafengg Festival, one of the most important festivals for orchestral classical music, takes place in Grafenegg.

But now back to the walk that lead me to the Stupa. From the eastern gate I walked to the state road L45 and turned left.

After 90 meters I turned left into the state road L7031.

Now I was already able to see the Stupa.

After 1.3 kilometers I walked through the railway underpass.

Then I turned right.

At the road fork I chose the right road.

Soon after I had tu turn off left to the parking…

and walked up to the stupa. A stupa is a buddhist building used for meditation. The "Stupa am Wagram" was built in 2019. It has a height of 18.75 m. Together with the spire it has a height of 32.5 meters. Therefor it is the biggest stupa in Europe.

Afterwards I walked back to the road but I decided to go back on different ways and turned left into the road to get to a village called "Wagram am Wagram".

There I crossed the railway and then turned right into the state road L2192.

The L2192 is a beautiful tree-lined street.

On the left you can see remains of a firing range that was built during World War II for the staff of the nearby military airport.

The L2192 ends at the L45. I just had to cross this road and was on the parking at the eastern gate of Grafenegg castle again.

The pure walking time was around 1 hour and 15 minutes. I would recommend to reserve another 15 minutes for visiting the stupa and at least 30 minutes for a short walk through the park. If you want to see all buildings and artworks in the park you will need approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Further information on the stupa can be found at stupa.at and friedensstupa.at, further information on Grafenegg castle at grafenegg.com.

A detailled description of this walk, with a lot of photos and a map is available on Weinbergwandern.at!.
