Chaukhandi tombs: A historical place in Karachi

Chaukhandi Kabristan, I heard this name first time in my life couple of months ago when my eldest bro with my nephew was in Pakistan from Sweden. I was shocked to know that this place is in Karachi and is a famous historical place but I was unaware of this place or never heard from anyone, not in friend’s circle, not in books, not in news, I mean nowhere. My bro was eager to visit this place and told us about it then I googled it to know more about this place. Kabristan is an Urdu word, means graveyard.

There is too much of information on google but all related to historians. So, I just ignored all that and asked my bro to make a plan so we may able to see what it looks like in real. We headed to the place on 13th Aug, Saturday morning. It was not far away from our home, like 27 km away and took an hour to reach there. The entrance was hard to find though, trucks were all around and the path was muddy. Thanks to Google through which we were able to get to the right place.

Just after entrance and main gate, the amazing and wonderful place was infront of us. I was amazed to see such a nice hidden place. It was more than what I expected. We started roaming around the place.

It is one of the best place for tourists if maintained well, not a single person over there who could guide us and tell us anything about the history of Chaukhandi. It was so quiet and calm there.

The tombs look beautiful, what an artwork! My bro was our guide who was continuously explaining things about those tombs but seriously, nothing was understandable to me but I was just acknowledging him as if I understand it all.

I was busy taking pictures and doing fun and crazy stuff with my nephew. Jumping around and making slow motion clips. It was funny when I tried to jump but slipped and unable to land successfully, landed on my hands though which made my eldest bro very angry, why are you doing that if you cannot handle? He scolded me and was little upset as if I get injured. However, I was alright but laughing out loud which is a bit irritating.

Those sculptures and carvings of the sand stones were remarkable. There could be some hidden truth behind those tombs or maybe a message from a tribe to another. Or maybe a tribute to the warriors. Whatever the reason is, the main thing is it was a good place to visit with family and have a little fun time.

There was a plain grass area as well where we could have a relaxing time with family or friends.

We spent like an hour or so over there because we were in hurry to start our journey to Ranikot Fort. That is it for Chaukhandi Tombs. Cheer!!!

All above pictures are taken by me through my cell phone Moto E4 and few of them by my brother @shahzad-ansari through his cell phone Oneplus.
