Greetings from one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Moravia, St. Hostýn.
Already in prehistoric times there was a large hill fort on the hill of Hostýn. No wonder - Hostýn was a strategic stronghold that controlled trade routes, including the famous Amber Trail.
An old legend says that in the thirteenth century people hid on the Hostýn hill from the Tatar invasion. When they prayed to the Virgin Mary, a miracle happened. Suddenly a violent storm broke out, setting fire to the Tartar camp and scattering it.
The legend doesn't have to be true (and this one probably isn't), but it has to be nice. In any case, the cult of Our Lady of Hostýn - the defender of Moravia - was created. She is depicted holding the baby Jesus, who throws lightning at her enemies. It suggests that although Christianity is a more or less peaceful religion, it is not a good idea to provoke it.
The Great Church on Hostyn was built in the early 18th century, and in 1784 Emperor Joseph II had it closed and largely dismantled. The temple was rebuilt in the mid-19th century and still stands today.

Around the central church there are three chapels. The first is the chapel of St. Jan Sarkander. Jan Sarkander was a priest from Holešov who was accused of treason and martyred at the beginning of the Thirty Years' War during the conflict between Catholics and Protestants. It is not certain whether the accusation was true, but it is certain that Jan Sarkander became a martyr and a saint.

The second chapel is the Chapel of Our Lady of La Saletta. In 1846, Our Lady appeared to some children in La Saletta and gave them a prophecy that a wave of evil would hit the world, but that everything would turn out well in the end. Our Lady of La Saletta is often depicted as a sorrowful woman covering her eyes.

The last chapel is dedicated to Saint Joseph, the husband of the Virgin Mary. An interesting feature is the aquarium in the chapel - after all, a fish is one of the symbols of Christianity. There is also a screen where you can see the inside of the main church.

Why two?
The first one was built in 1900, but the donors did not like it. It probably didn't meet their standards or wasn't done properly. So in 1903 they called the famous architect Dušan Jurkovič, who designed a new Way of the Cross in the style of Wallachian folk architecture.

The water was pleasantly cool and slightly mineralized. The effects? We shall see.
