Before coming to Edinburgh, she did a little reconnaissance of the interesting attractions of this city, and of course, apart from the botanical garden, she marked only one more place. Dean Village is a tiny village, which in the past was located a few kilometers outside the very center of Edinburgh and was a completely separate entity. With the dynamic development of Edinburgh, the much slower-growing village was almost absorbed into the city's structures, but what is exceptional and in such situations even unique, Dean Village resisted urban development and successfully retained its rustic character. In ancient times, the village was a cluster of mills, thanks to the fact that the Water of Leith flows through the center of the village. By the way, it is worth noting that a walk along this river is probably the best way to get to the village. It is very picturesque, which is due to the fact that it is located at the bottom of a narrow and deep (as for urban conditions) canyon. Because the canyon is deep and the banks of the river are densely covered with trees, walking along the shore can feel a bit uncomfortable. The whole of Edinburgh is shrouded in a dark atmosphere, and this deep dark canyon, if not for the many runners and cyclists moving along the river, would be a really dark place, where no tourist would intentionally venture.

Agatka to ma jednak nosa do odnajdywania nietypowych ciekawych miejsc. Przed przyjazdem do Edynburga rozbiła małe rozpoznanie ciekawych atrakcji tego miasta, no i oczywiście poza ogrodem botanicznym zaznaczyła sobie jeszcze tylko jedno miejsce. Dean Village, to malutka wioska, która w przeszłości znajdowała się kilka kilometrów poza ścisłym centrum Edynburga i stanowiła kompletnie oddzielny byt. Wraz z dynamicznym rozwojem Edynburga, znacznie wolniej rozwijająca się wioska została wręcz wchłonięta w struktury miasta, ale co wyjątkowe i w takich sytuacjach wręcz niepowtarzalne Dean Village oparła się miejskiej zabudowie i skutecznie zachowała swój rustykalny charakter. W dawnych czasach wioska była skupiskiem młynów a to wszystko dzięki temu, że przez środek wioski przepływa wartka rzeczka Water of Leith. Przy okazji warto zaznaczyć, że spacer wzdłuż tej rzeki jest chyba najlepszym sposobem na dostanie się do wioski. Jest ona bardzo malownicza co zawdzięcza temu, że znajduje się w dnie wąskiego i głębokiego (jak na warunki miejskie) kanionu. Ponieważ kanion jest głęboki, a brzegi rzeki są gęsto porośnięte drzewami to idąc wzdłuż brzegu można poczuć się trochę niekomfortowo. Cały Edynburg spowity jest mroczną atmosferą, a ten głęboki ciemny kanion gdyby nie liczni biegacze i rowerzyści przemieszczający się wzdłuż rzeki, byłby naprawdę mrocznym miejscem, gdzie intencjonalnie raczej żaden turysta by się nie zapuszczał.

From the old mill days of Dean Village, old millstones and stone tablets presenting old Edinburgh bakery products are scattered throughout the village. The history of this place dates back to the times of King David I, i.e. the 12th century, and flour was produced continuously for 800 years in eleven mills located there. Only with the advent of the 20th century and the construction of much larger and more efficient mills in the area of Dean Village, it turned from an industrial village into a kind of open-air museum. Since the mid-1970s, old disused warehouses, mills and workers' cottages have been gradually converted into residential buildings, making Dean Village one of the most attractive and prestigious locations to live in Edinburgh today.

Z dawnych młyńskich czasów Dean Village do dzisiaj pozostały porozmieszczane w różnych zakątkach wioski stare kamienie młyńskie i kamienne tablice prezentujące dawne edynburskie wyroby piekarskie. Historia tego miejsca sięga aż do czasów króla Dawida I czyli XII wieku i nieprzerwanie przez 800 lat w jedenastu zlokalizowanych tam młynach produkowano mąkę. Dopiero wraz z nastaniem XX wieku i budową znacznie większych i wydajniejszych młynów w okolicy Dean Village z przemysłowej wioski stał się swego rodzaju skansenem.
