Nha Trang, a coastal city which is about 430km from Ho Chi Minh City is usually regarded as a paradise of beautiful islands. Among some of the very popular ones to tourists, Yen island (Hon Noi) comes out as one of the most fascinating destinations to me.
The island has such a name with “Yen” meaning the swiftlets because this place has the largest concentration of this kind of bird whose nests bring high monetary value to the city. For the first time in my life, I saw bird nests perching on the offshore cliffs and really admired how meticulous the mother birds were in skillfully building such a shelter for their babies.
The island is located 25km to the mainland and it took me nearly 2 hours on the boat to reach it. In fact, I was horribly seasick after such a long time and had to rest for a while to recover. However, the unique beauty of the island was worth my time and effort.
The island immediately hooked me by crystal clear blue sea water with different colored layers that can be caught sight of from the distance. For a moment I just completely immerse in the splendid scenery.
There were stone steps that took me to a very good position where I could enjoy the unique doubled beach. I stood there for nearly 30 minutes, listening to the crashing waves and feeling my inner peace.
Being in the cool water gave me relaxation to the utmost. When I got a bit tired, I went back to the hut to take a rest and kept doing it back and forth until the evening.
See what I found
My trip ended with a lot of fun and enjoyment. I hope that the Covid pandemic will be soon over so that I have another chance to pay the island another visit in the near future.
