This December is the month we have been waiting for because in December my husband and I have a long holiday because our students have finished their report cards and we get 2 weeks off. We also use the holidays for holidays.
Our long holiday destinations this year are Banda Aceh City and Sabang City.
After a long journey today, I would like to invite you to visit the silent witness of the 2004 Aceh tsunami, which is still standing strong today, namely the PLTD Apung 1 power plant.
At first glance there is nothing special about this ship, even this place seems outdated. But unlike the history in it which will never be worn out as learning and as material for reflection, that no matter how sophisticated the technology made by humans, there is still a God who has the will over everything.
The floating PLTD is a diesel-powered power plant. This ship was originally located in the middle of the Ule Lee sea, but because of the tsunami waves that came on December 26, 2004, this ship was carried by currents up to 5 kilometers, with a weight of 2600 tons, 63 meters long and 1900 meters wide. The float was dragged that far and hit many houses. After the tsunami was over, there were already several discourses and plans that had been carried out by the Regional Government in collaboration with the Central Government and neighboring countries to move the PLTD Apung to its original place, but all did not work, so the Floating Ship was left alone to be a silent witness and become a witness. monuments that can be visited by the general public
PLTD Apung is open every Monday to Thursday and Saturday to Sunday with an operational schedule starting at 08.00 - 12.00 WIB, and in the afternoon it is reopened at 14.00 - 18.00 WIB, while on Friday it is opened at 14.00 WIB to 18.00 WIB. Now the situation of the floating PLTD is not what it used to be after the Tsunami. This floating diesel power plant has been restored and repainted without changing the condition of the ship.
Inside our ship will be shown how the history of the floating ship can be dragged by the waves, and other information about the Tsunami and there are several documents and testimonies of life about the floating ship. This ship has 3 floors. And after being satisfied with seeing the information and increasing our knowledge about the Floating Ship and the Tsunami tragedy, we can rest outside the ship with a large yard and there is already a beautiful garden there.
In the courtyard of this monument, we can still see the remains of the rubble of houses affected by the tsunami and the blow of the floating PLTD ship. Now the local government buys these houses so that the PLTD Apung Apung monument becomes wider. And it is more worthy of being an educational visit for children and adults, and for local, long-distance and even foreign tourists who visit there.
To enter this monument you are free of charge, it's just that the officers who maintain the cleanliness there provide a charity box that we can fill sincerely to keep the ship clean.
Thus my trip to this floating PLTD, hopefully all the information that is available adds to our knowledge, keep following our posts Tomi and maya from Binjai City, and for the next few weeks I will still be discussing tourist destinations in Banda Aceh City. Good night. thank you.
