We started our first day in Myanmar from Rangoon (Yangun), the former capital of this country. We decided to visit the local National Museum. As it turned out, no photos are allowed on the premises of the museum, all photographic equipment was taken from us. We managed to smuggle only one smartphone, so photos taken in low light with the phone are not of good quality.
Nasz pierwszy dzień pobytu w Myanmar rozpoczęliśmy od Rangun (Yangun) dawnej stolicy tego kraju. Postanowiliśmy zwiedzić tutejsze Muzeum Narodowe. Jak się okazało, na terenie muzeum nie wolno robić żadnych zdjęć, zabrano nam cały sprzęt fotograficzny. Udało nam się przemycić jedynie jednego smartphona, dlatego zdjęcia robione w słabym oświetleniu telefonem, nie są dobrej jakości.
The National Museum in Yangon (Yangon) is quite large, it consists of 5 floors and several rooms on each of them. Despite the fact that the collection is rather modest, as Burma has been plundered many times by invaders and colonizers, visiting this place took us nearly 4 hours. The museum was founded in 1952 and is one of the largest in Myanmar (former Burma).
Muzeum Narodowe w Rangun (Yangon) jest dość duże, składa się z 5 pięter i kilkunastu pomieszczeń na każdym z nich. Pomimo, iż zbiory ma raczej skromne, gdyż Birma była wielokrotnie grabiona przez najeźdźców i kolonizatorów, zwiedzanie tego miejsca i tak zajęło nam blisko 4 godziny. Muzeum założone zostało w 1952 roku i jest jednym z największych w Myanmar (dawna Birma).
The main attraction of the museum is the Lion Throne of the Burmese monarch. The original Lion Throne from 1885 is an outstanding work of Burmese woodcarving. It is 8 meters high, inlaid with gold and lacquer.
Główną atrakcją muzeum jest Lion Throne monarchy birmańskiego. Oryginalny Lwi Tron z 1885 roku, to wybitne dzieło birmańskiej sztuki snycerskiej. Ma 8 m wysokości, jest inkrustowany złotem i laką.
The first three floors are the history of Burmese writing showing the development of the alphabet and language from the 3rd century BC. to the medieval times. Traces of handwriting are visible on stones, palm leaves, wood and paper.
Pierwsze trzy piętra to historia piśmiennictwa birmańskiego ukazująca rozwój alfabetu oraz języka od III w p.n.e. do czasów średniowiecznych. Ślady pisma widoczne są na kamieniach, liściach palmowych, drewnie i papierze.
On the further floors of the museum, we can see a rich collection of ancient artifacts, works of art, ornaments, and historical memorabilia related to Myanmar.
Na dalszych piętrach muzeum możemy zobaczyć bogatą kolekcję starożytnych artefaktów, dzieł sztuki, ozdób, pamiątek historycznych związanych z Myanmar.
On the next floors, you can also see royal beds, screens and wood carvings. There are also collections of coins, chess pieces, figurines, pipes, dishes and jewel boxes.
Na kolejnych piętrach obejrzeć można też królewskie łoża, parawany i rzeźby w drewnie. Są tam również zbiory monet, szachów, figurek, fajek, naczyń oraz skrzynek na klejnoty.
Beautifully decorated swords and royal robes attract attention.
Uwagę zwracają pięknie zdobione miecze, i królewskie szaty.
An interesting fact is the figures of the guards made in the 1: 1 scale. I have always thought that Burmese are a short nation, with an average height of maybe 160 cm, or that's what it looks like on the streets - and I was wrong here. When I stood next to the guard's figure, and I am 192 cm tall and weigh almost 100 kg, I looked weak, to say the least.
Ciekawostką są figury strażników wykonane w skali 1:1. Zawsze uważałem, że birmańczycy to niski naród, ze średnią wzrostu może 160 cm, tak przynajmniej to wygląda na ulicach - i tu się myliłem. Gdy stanąłem obok figury strażnika, a mam 192 cm wzrostu i ważę prawie 100 kg, wyglądałem delikatnie mówiąc słabo.

On the next floor in the museum, we can see many original musical instruments. Some of them were playable, which I did.
Na kolejnym piętrze w muzeum, możemy zobaczyć bardzo wiele oryginalnych instrumentów muzycznych. Na niektórych można było zagrać, co też uczyniłem.
There is also an extensive collection of puppet theater puppets. This is a very popular tapping in old Myanmar
Jest tam również bogata kolekcja lalek z teatru marionetek. To bardzo popularna stuka w dawnym Myanmar
