Its Beach Season in Japan Again 4 (Toji Beach) (Near Shimoda).

After the relaxing morning at Matsuzaki beach, we went looking for bigger waves and found them at the very south of the Izu peninsula at Toji beach. We arrived at about 2pm, put the beach tent up and then set to work, spending a really fun couple of hours with the big waves there, practicing body boarding.

The location is really nice. Beautiful scenery all around and the famous Ryugu sea cave is just down the road, so its in a popular location, but most people want to see the sea cave, not the beach abutting it.

Its quite far from train lines and the more built up parts of central Japan, but this place is great for waves and nice sandy beaches.

We arrived at about 2pm. At that time there was no one at the 1,500 yen parking place, so we got in for free. I wouldn't try and come here by train, its just too far from Shimoda station, I think, but if you can come by car its a very nice place and not so crowded either.

The only downside that I experienced, was that, because of the waves churning up the sand, you couldn't get rid of it when you came out of the sea, and found unwelcome grains in the most unlikely of places.

Other than that, its a very nice place, although a little far from town.
