Last F1 in Sepang 2017 flash back

One of the joys of lockdown or quarantine is that when you have not got a lot to do all the time you dig around in cupboards and come across this you had forgotten about.

Well, that's exactly what happened today. I was trying to find some birthday cards I know I have stashed away somewhere and found this.

It's my race entry and passes for the Malaysian Grand Prix at Kuala Lumpur in 2017 and some great memories came flooding back.

Situated close to the KL International Airport Sapang race circuit is a great venue for F1 long fast straights and tight challenging corners the only downside is that 2017 was going to be the last time the F1 circus came to Malaysia.

There are hotels near the circuit and airport but where is the fun in that I stayed at the Le Méridien it right next to the central station. And views of down town KL

Nice pool too.

It was an amazing 5 days and the hotel was so great for the train out to the race circuit to cap it all the train company were doing an F1 special price so the return trips to the circuit from KL were less than £60 for the 4 days of the race as its over an hour each way and just the single fare from the airport on the metro is around £15.So getting to the circuit was easy as the coach from the rail station dropped you off a short walk from the entrance. Getting back was a bit more hectic with all the people leaving at the same time the wait for the bus was over an hour.

Free Practice on the Friday saw plenty of space in the grandstands

but the action on the track was good with the rain making life interesting and a good time to hone your skills taking photos of cars travelling close to 200mph

Saturday Qualifying and Sunday Race day was a lot more crowded with all the stands full to capacity.

Getting a good view wasn’t hard though and huge screens made it easy to follow the action.

Sunday saw a full race program with the F4 support race probably one of the most unusual I’ve seen with every car running out of fuel a couple of laps before the finish and the winner coasting to a stop a few 100m further than the rest.

The Porsche cup race in the rain was really very entertaining they really dont handle well at all. Tiptoe round a corner and blast it down the straight was the order of the day.

The driver parade was interesting with a selection of classic cars being used @millycf1976 even got a wave from Lewis Hamilton.

As Max won the race I guess I’d better give you a photo of him from the ones I took just to prove there is no bias on Hive.

So all in all lots of great memory’s from a trip to KL with @scubahead and @millycf1976
