Florence was the city I was most excited to visit in all of Italy.
I love art, and in this city is what you can find wherever you walk. It is also the birthplace of legendary artists such as Brunelleschi, Donatello and Ghiberti, followed by Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo (whose David is arguably the most famous work in the history of art), Raphael.... And a very special writer for me, Dante Allighieri, the author of "The Divine Comedy" which has so inspired my novels "Legends of Avernus" and "Legends of Avernus: Descensium" of which I am the author.
Florencia era la ciudad que más ilusión me hacía visitar de toda Italia.
Me encanta el arte, y en esta ciudad es lo que más puedes encontrar allá por donde camines. Es además la cuna de legendarios artistas como Brunelleschi, Donatello y Ghiberti, a los que le siguieron Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Miguel Ángel (cuya obra de el David podría decirse que es la más famosa de la historia del arte), Rafael... Y un escritor muy especial para mí, Dante Allighieri, el autor de "La divina comedia" que tanto ha inspirado mis novelas de "Leyendas del Averno" y "Leyendas del Averno: Descensium" de las cuales soy la autora.
Located in Tuscany, despite being a much smaller city than Rome could be, there is a lot to see in it and you will want to retain in your retinas all the sculptures and beautiful landscapes you will be walking through.
I have to add that also in this city, compared to other Italian cities, people drive respecting the pedestrian while crossing the street 🤣.
Situada en la Toscana, a pesar de ser una ciudad mucho más pequeña que lo que podría ser Roma, hay mucho que ver en ella y vas a querer retener en tus retinas todas las esculturas y paisajes hermosos por los que vas a estar paseando.
He de añadir que también en esta ciudad, a comparación con otras ciudades italianas, la gente conduce respetando al peatón mientras cruza la calle 🤣.
The first thing that welcomes us is the imposing and majestic cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. A cathedral located in the Piazza del Duomo, which is a tiny square where the cathedral tries to make its way next to the baptistery building. Being in a small place you have to go all the way around to be able to photograph it in its entirety and marvel at its architecture. When you see it in person it looks like a 3D painted picture, it is the cathedral with the most beautiful facade I had ever seen in my life.
Lo primero que nos recibe es la imponente y majestuosa catedral de Santa María del Fiore. Una catedral situada en la Piazza del Duomo, que es una plaza pequeñita donde la catedral intenta abrirse paso junto al edificio de baptisterio. Al estar en un lugar reducido tienes que dar toda la vuelta para poder fotografiarla entera y maravillarte de su arquitectura. Cuando la ves en persona parece que es un cuadro en 3D pintado, es la catedral con la fachada más bonita que había visto en mi vida.
You will see that there is a long queue to enter the cathedral. The entrance is free, although there are some parts that are paid (we only went to the free part) and the truth, I found it much nicer on the outside than inside, since, apart from the frescoes that are painted on the dome, it is a pretty normal church. I do not know if it is worth paying to see the rest of the sections, but at least the free part, if you see a huge queue to access and you want to save it, here I show you in photo what you see haha.
Veréis que hay mucha cola para entrar a la catedral. La entrada es gratuita, aunque hay algunas partes que son de pago (nosotros sólo fuimos a la parte gratuita) y la verdad, me pareció mucho más bonita por fuera que por dentro, ya que, además de los frescos que se ven pintados en la cúpula por lo demás es una iglesia bastante normal. Desconozco si merecerá la pena pagar por ver el resto de secciones, pero al menos la parte gratuita, si ves una cola inmensa para acceder y quieres ahorrártela, aquí te muestro en foto lo que se ve jaja.

Continuing with our tour of cathedrals, since there is so much to see if I talk about everything else that this city has it could be a rather long post, the next one that caught my attention is the basilica of Santa Croce in Gothic style, which is in a lively square and in which at its entrance we can find the sculpture of the writer Dante Allighieri.
Siguiendo con nuestro recorrido de catedrales, ya que como hay mucho que ver si hablo de todo lo demás que tiene esta ciudad podría ser un post bastante largo, la siguiente que me llamó la atención es la basílica de Santa Croce de estilo gótico, que está en una animada plaza y en la cual a su entrada podemos encontrar la escultura del escritor Dante Allighieri.
Near the train station we will find the basilica of Santa Maria Novella, just as beautiful as the previous ones and also in a square with the same name. When we went there was a rather strange vehicle on display, from which they later started selling charity hot dogs.
Cerca de la estación de ferrocarril encontraremos la basílica de Santa María Novella, igual de bonita que las anteriores y también en una plaza con el mismo nombre. Cuando fuimos estaba expuesto un vehículo bastante extraño, desde el cual después se pusieron a vender hot dogs benéficos.
In a very beautiful square called Piazza della Signoria, where you will find a fountain of Neptune, a David by Michelangelo and many more sculptures (free to see), there is also the Palazzo Vecchio, which you can also access for free to the first floor inside.
En una plaza muy bonita llamada Piazza della Signoria, donde encontraremos una fuente de Neptuno, un David de Miguel Ángel y muchas más esculturas (gratuitas de ver), está también el Palazzo Vecchio, al que podrás acceder también de manera gratuita a la planta baja de su interior.
We continue walking through the city until we reach the Great Synagogue of Florence, which is considered one of the most important synagogues built in Europe during the period of Jewish emancipation.
Continuamos callejeando por la ciudad hasta llegar a la Gran Sinagoga de Florencia, que es considerada una de las sinagogas más importantes construidas en la Europa del período de la emancipación judía.
For dinner we tried the Tuscan bread. I highly recommend trying one of these sandwiches because they are out of this world. The bread is different, square and very big, for only 6€ it will leave you full and the fillings they have are delicious.
The most famous place for this kind of sandwiches is "Al' Antico Vinaio", a few euros more expensive, and you will find that there is always a long queue. We were lucky enough to be able to go early one day and wait less time to buy ours. However, we also tried the ones from "La Fettunta" which is the place on the same street, and they were also very good. But I understand why the ones from L' Antico Vinaio are more famous? They put more quantity and the fillings had much more consistency.
Para cenar probamos el pan toscano. Recomiendo encarecidamente probar uno de estos bocatas porque son de otro mundo. El pan es diferente, cuadrado y muy grande, por tan sólo 6€ te dejará lleno y además los rellenos que tienen son deliciosos.
El lugar más famoso de este tipo de bocatas es "Al' Antico Vinaio", unos euros un poco más caro, y comprobarás que también siempre hay mucha cola. Nosotros tuvimos la suerte de poder ir pronto un día y esperar menos tiempo para comprar el nuestro. Sin embargo, también probamos los de "La Fettunta" que es el local que está en esa misma calle, y también estaban muy buenos. Pero comprendo por qué los de L' Antico Vinaio son más famosos... Ponen más cantidad y los rellenos tenían mucha más consistencia.
