En mi anterior post relacionado os hablé de Herculano, una ciudad que tuvo el mismo fatídico destino que la que hoy traigo: Pompeya.
Os recomiendo leer el post de Herculano si queréis ampliar información sobre esa ciudad, podéis hacerlo haciendo click aquí. También recomiendo visitar ambas si tenéis la oportunidad, nosotros vimos las dos en el mismo día.
Pompeii is much better known than Herculaneum, besides being larger. It is also farther away from the Vesuvius volcano, so I told you that the victims of the eruption of the volcano died in different ways in both cities.
In Herculaneum, being closer, the temperatures reached many more degrees, burning people instantly and reducing them to only their skeletons. In Pompeii, on the other hand, the ashes hardened around the bodies that retained their flesh. The flesh fell apart over time, hollowing out the shape of the ashes, which years later archaeologists filled with plaster to preserve the victims. To this day you can still see the posture and expression with which death met them that day in 79 AD.
Pompeya es mucho más conocida que Herculano, además de que es más grande. También está más alejada del volcán Vesubio, por lo que os comenté que las víctimas de la erupción del volcán murieron de diferente manera en ambas ciudades.
En Herculano, al estar más cerca, las temperaturas alcanzaron muchos más grados quemando a las personas al instante y reduciéndoles a que quedase sólo su esqueleto. Por el contrario en Pompeya, las cenizas se endurecieron alrededor de los cuerpos que conservaron su carne. La carne se deshizo con el tiempo, quedándose hueca la forma de las cenizas, que años más tarde los arqueólogos rellenaron con yeso para preservar a las víctimas. A día de hoy todavía puede verse la postura y la expresión con la que les encontró la muerte aquel día del año 79 d.C.
Like Herculaneum, it is a city that was trapped in time, and when you visit it will ooze history everywhere of the town it was, and how its inhabitants lived.
Pompeii was called the "city of sin" because of its abundance of brothels.
When we finished our tour in Herculaneum we went by train to Pompeii, it took about half an hour.
Al igual que Herculano, es una ciudad que quedó atrapada en el tiempo, y que cuando la visites rezumará historia por doquier de la población que fue, y de cómo vivían sus habitantes. A Pompeya le llamaban la "ciudad del pecado" porque en ella abundaban los burdeles.
Cuando terminamos nuestro recorrido en Herculano fuimos en tren hasta Pompeya, tardamos alrededor de media hora.
The ancient city of Pompeii is located in the modern Pompeii. There are several accesses, we were looking at Google maps the closest one from the station where we got off.
We saw that they were doing an outdoor exhibition of graffiti murals the day we arrived.
La ciudad antigua de Pompeya, se encuentra en la actual y moderna Pompeya. Hay varios accesos, nosotros estuvimos mirando en Google maps el más cercano desde la estación donde nos bajamos.
Vimos que estaban haciendo una exposición al aire libre de murales de graffiti el día que llegamos.
When we were near one of the entrances to the archaeological park, some girls came out of an establishment and said, "Do you want a map to Pompeii? We are not guides". At Herculaneum we had been given a booklet that included a numbered map with a brief explanation of what we were going to see at each point, so thinking it was the same thing, we agreed.
But even though these girls were not guides, they wanted to charge us about 10€ for the map and an audio guide. We said no, since we could download a guide for free on the internet and listen to it, as well as see the map. I recommend downloading it and having it offline because inside the park we didn't have much coverage.
Cuando estábamos cerca de uno de los accesos al parque arqueológico, unas chicas salieron de un establecimiento y nos dijeron: "¿Queréis un mapa para Pompeya? No somos guías". En Herculano nos habían regalado un folleto que incluía un mapa numerado con una breve explicación de lo que íbamos a ver en cada punto, así que pensando que se trataba de lo mismo, accedimos.
Pero aunque estas chicas no fuesen guías, querían cobrarnos unos 10€ por el mapa y por una audioguía. Les dijimos que no, ya que podíamos descargar gratuitamente una guía por internet y escucharla, además de ver el mapa. Recomiendo descargarlo y tenerlo offline porque dentro del parque no teníamos mucha cobertura.
Finally we entered the ancient Pompeii. We entered through the part where this amphitheater was. Did you know that Pink Floyd played a concert in these ruins in 1972? They did it without an audience, but even so I don't know to what extent the loud sound could damage this jewel of antiquity.
Por fin entramos a la antigua Pompeya. Accedimos por la parte donde estaba este anfiteatro. ¿Sabías que en estas ruinas hicieron un concierto los Pink Floyd en 1972? Lo hicieron sin público, pero aun así no sé hasta que punto el sonido fuerte pudiera dañar esta joya de la antigüedad.
We continued to advance and found some victims of the volcano.
Continuamos avanzando y encontramos a algunas víctimas del volcán.

The structure of the houses were very similar to those we had seen in Herculaneum. It is surprising that to this day you can still see the colors of the walls and the works of art that were painted on them. Seeing them whole, colorful and inhabited must have been great for whoever saw it at that time.
La estructura de las viviendas eran muy similares a las que habíamos visto en Herculano. Sorprende que a día de hoy todavía puedan verse los colores de las paredes y las obras de arte que pintaron en ellas. Verlas enteras, coloridas y habitadas tuvo que ser genial para quien lo viera en esa época.
They had very luxurious bathtubs! Water used to fall down these stairs.
¡Tenían bañeras muy lujosas! Por estas escaleras antes caía agua.
In this tavern someone made good pizzas in that oven.
En esta taberna alguien hizo buenas pizzas en ese horno
These are the streets of Pompeya. The water used to flow through here, that's why to cross from one street to another they used to do it through those higher stones that are in the middle, as if it were a "crosswalk".
Estas son las calles de Pompeya. Antes por ahí pasaba el agua, por eso para cruzar de una calle a otra lo hacían por unas piedras más elevadas que están en el medio, como si fuera un "paso de peatones".
They also wrote their house number on the door, but in Roman numerals 😄.
Ellos también escribían el número de su casa en la puerta, pero en números romanos 😄
This is the "faun's house".
Esta es la "casa del fauno"
They loved to put mosaics on the floor, it says "Salve Lvcrv" and it means "Welcome the money"
Les encantaba poner mosaicos en el suelo, dice "Salve Lvcrv" que significa "Bienvenido sea el dinero"
We arrived at the main square of Pompeii, it is very large and has ruins of several temples and important buildings, as well as a sculpture of a centaur.
Llegamos a la plaza principal de Pompeya, es muy grande y tiene ruinas de varios templos y edificios importantes, además de una escultura de un centauro.
On the terrace of the temple of Venus, there is a large sculpture by the late Franco-Polish artist Mitoraj, whose dream was to see his works in the ruins of Pompeii, and his dream was fulfilled, although he was not able to see it during his lifetime.
En la terraza del templo de Venus, se encuentra una gran escultura del fallecido artista franco-polaco Mitoraj, cuyo sueño era ver sus obras en las ruinas de Pompeya, y su sueño fue cumplido, aunque él no haya podido verlo en vida.
At the end of our tour of Pompeii, we returned to the city of Naples, from where we had to catch the train to our next destination.
We were only in the city for a short time, but long enough to see that the historic center was very dirty, full of garbage.
There were many dead pigeons on the ground... I didn't take pictures of the poor ones.
Al terminar nuestro recorrido por Pompeya, volvimos a la ciudad de Nápoles, desde donde teníamos que coger el tren a nuestro siguiente destino.
Sólo estuvimos un rato en la ciudad, pero lo suficiente para ver que el centro histórico estaba muy sucio, lleno de basura.
Habían muchas palomas muertas por el suelo... a las pobres no les hice fotos.

I highlight as an anecdote that, if I told you that in Rome people drove wildly, that was nothing compared to what I saw here in Naples....
Here I saw 3 people riding a motorcycle, people without helmets (when all this is supposed to be forbidden in this country too) I even saw a dog driving a car! 🤣 I attach evidence:
Destaco como anécdota que, si os conté que en Roma la gente conducía de forma salvaje, eso no era nada comparado con lo que vi aquí en Nápoles...
Aquí vi a 3 personas montadas en una moto, gente sin casco (cuando se supone que en este país también está prohibido todo esto) ¡Hasta vi a un perro conduciendo un coche! 🤣 Adjunto pruebas:
