Dagestan is a territory of tourism (15 pics)

Greetings, my friends.
Dagestan is a territory of tourism. This is exactly the kind of Stella we met on the last day of our trip to this southernmost republic of Russia.
I visited Dagestan as part of a group of comrades on the twentieth of December 2022. When we went on this trip, we knew that the tourist infrastructure was practically absent on the territory of the republic. It should be noted that tourism throughout Russia has never received much attention, even during the existence of the Soviet Union. Domestic tourism in the country began to develop in 2020 after many countries closed their borders during the pandemic.

It was then that many people turned their attention to Dagestan. This Russian region has mountains, the sea, a warm climate, and excellent national cuisine. This is why many Russian citizens go, for example, to Greece and Cyprus. Yes, I also forgot to mention the ancient history of Dagestan. We got to know all this during the 4 days of our trip.
On the last day of our adventure, our guides invited us to explore the Sulak Canyon.

Sulak Canyon is located in the valley of the Sulak River and is the deepest canyon in Europe. The length of the canyon is about 53 kilometers and the greatest depth reaches 1920 meters. It is 63 meters deeper than the Grand Canyon in the USA.
A year before my trip to Dagestan, my friend, who lives in this republic, voiced this information to me. Of course, I wanted to see with my own eyes this greatest, or rather the deepest creation of Nature.
The observation deck for tourists is located near the small town of Dubki.
The place is very beautiful, but I immediately realized that our guides had incorrectly timed their visit to the canyon. Looking at the canyon, we were looking against the Sun and there was poor lighting in the canyon itself, plus a light fog prevented me from capturing this beauty.
We needed to be in this place about 3-4 hours earlier. Friends, consider this point if you find yourself in this place. The best time for a photoshoot in this place is in the morning, when the sun will shine along the canyon on the left side.

Care must be taken when visiting this place. The edges of the cliff are not protected by anything. Many visitors, especially girls, try to go to the very edge to get a beautiful photo. During my trips, I realized that girls really like to be photographed and are looking for an unusual angle, often this involves a risk to their health.
There are no facilities for exploring the canyon. Full integration with the wild. A couple of benches for relaxation and a small metal platform with a fence - that's all the comfort.

I think it is necessary to improve and protect this place in some way so that tourists can visit this canyon more comfortably and safely.
It is necessary to build an observation deck that would protrude beyond the edge of the canyon and it would be possible to see the canyon wall more qualitatively from our side.
It is likely that over the past year, some work has already been carried out in this direction. The Government of Dagestan and the Federal Government of Russia have taken the issue of tourism in Russia very seriously and Dagestan has become one of the leading places.

During our visit to this place, there was already a small coffee shop. But we were always more interested in the toilet. There was a fairly comfortable toilet in this place. This is an important detail for Dagestan, 2 or even 3 years ago it was difficult to find a public toilet in such places.

The settlement next to the canyon was built during the Soviet era and is a typical urban-type settlement with panel houses of 2 or 3 floors. At the moment, people from Dubki are leaving because it is difficult to find work.

Well, in the meantime, friends, I say goodbye to you and hope that you will come to visit me again.

All the photos were taken by me on a Nikon D5300 camera.
Friends, are you ready to continue my journey through Dagestan with me?
