A verse in the book of Ecclesiastes states, "vanity upon vanity. All is vanity." But the writer was a king who had 300 wives, 700 concubines, lots of jewelries, clothes, servants, luxuries and access to whatever vanity he wanted.

At events, I notice people flash the latest jewelries, clothes, makeup, cars etc. I often wonder why we humans go to such length and what we intend to achieve. Then it dawned on me that humans have always had the innate desire for vanity, and a lot of businesses are thriving from this knowledge alone. Little wonder the prices of goods and services increase once they cross the utility threshold into the vanity threshold.
