Tonight

Dusk spreads like smoke,
Voices fade & return like
A happy puppy. The road dull
Gleam peels away as we drive
Towards it, brakes weeping.
A long line of solemn penitents
Holding light blink against
the rain & the cold inch
another mile into my chest.
I'm hungry for a smoke
but I've quit that stuff.
Too much lungs in my throat,
My words sound fluffy.
I wish I was home,
covered in dreams.
But it rained again today
& I've stayed home
alone for too long.
Maybe tonight, I'll find
Someone to love.
