Becky rose from her desk and put her hands on the table of the board meeting.
"The last thing we need to see is yet another boring presentation about how the local government doesn't have what it takes to reduce the pork from the budget so that we can balance the budget.
The slim blonde bent over her paper taking notes and sneaking furtive looks through her bangs at the table of members of the town council.
No one spoke after the outburst. One man had a pencil in his mouth and looked as though he was concentrating. The blonde woman taking the meeting minutes noticed him looking furtively at his watch.
The minutes stretched on to what felt painfully long. Becky remained leaning on the desk staring at one and then another council member going clockwise around the table.
A short, balding guy named Stan cleared his throat and glanced toward the door.
The minute nots keeper was reminded of a deer in the headlights. Her paper stared back at her blankly.
Becky stood slowly. A look of frustration and resolve flitted across her features.
"Alright. Have it your way. I will start by proposing a freeze on raises for all of the town officials. If we can't learn how to manage a budget, we shouldn't award ourselves money from our hard-working constituents."
The council members looked at her in disbelief.
"The next meeting is in one month. Perhaps we will be more prepared for this meeting and will revisit the budget."
"This meeting is adjourned!"
