I wonder who it was who decided to pull the 3 stamens out of crocus and use them to color something. Saffron, those three threads that cost quite a bit, at least if you live somewhere where this flower doesn't grow. This flower is said to bloom for only 8 days a year, which means that there are fields full of flowers that are all picked bare at the same time and I wonder how many people crawl over the earth to do this work. And the rest of the year all those fields are bare until the bulbs come out again? In Europe, this crocus is said to only occur in Spain. I also read that quite a few flowers are needed to have 1 gram of saffron and by a lot I mean... 150. Just imagine... 150 flowers are stripped of their spicy stems to color our rice.
