Suleiman the Magnificent was the greatest reigning emperor of the Ottoman dynasty .Ottomans are the rulers descending from the great Osman I, from whose name the term Ottoman was adopted. Suleiman was the 10th ruler of that dynasty... He was born in 1494 in Manisa province of Turkey in the lineage of Selim the Grim and Ayesha Hafsa Sultan, the princess of Crimea.
He ascended the throne in 1520 at the age of 26 after his father's death. Soon after coronation, he engaged himself in the service of his subjects as well as the extension of Ottoman Empire far beyond. He conquered Sofia, Hungary, Rhodes, Belgred, Vienna, Budin, Baghdad and many other states in North Africa and brought them under Ottoman empire.
During his time, strict rules and discipline used to prevail in the state, providing him the title "Kanuni". He married his consort, Hurrem Sultan, breaking the 200 years of consort rule prevailing in the Topkapi palace. It provided her with immense respect and power equivalent to an empress. Suleiman had made some terrible mistakes in his life like execution of his Chief Minister, Pargali Ibrahim Pasha and his own elder son, Shehzada Mustafa on charge of treason which ultimately was proved false.
He worked for massive development of Shariah law in ottoman empire as well as caused renovation of the Holy Kabah in his lifetime. This great ruler breathed his last at the age of 72 during his expedition of Hungary, after a successful tenure of 46 years and was succeeded by his son, Selim the drunk.
His life and works have been adopted into a Turkish Mega Series "Muhtesem Yuzyil" starring Halit Ergenc as Suleiman the Magnificent, which came out to be a blockbuster and dubbed into 48 languages around the world.
