The habit of exaggerating was very much ingrained in Kunle. On one of the occasions, he made a claim in front of his pals and their girlfriends that he could finish five bowls of rice easily. They laughed, fully aware that Kunle made every possible attempt at falsehood, but they took up the challenge nonetheless.
The following Saturday, they all converged at Mama Nkechi’s eating joint and five super sized bowls of rice were served. Without hesitation, Kunle dived in to the first bowl, taking his time to chew as his pals observed him. He managed to complete the second one, by then he already had sweat on his brows. He barely made it halfway through the third when he started wobbling, but his pride would not allow him to back down.
He struggled but this time around, when he was about to bring the spoon again to his mouth, he stood up, dashed out through the corner, and just the poured out the whole rice from the other side. They laughed their hearts out as he threw up everything and lay on the floor, exhausted. From that day going forward, no one ever believed Kunle’s words because he lacked credibility.
