It was a fairy tale beginning to the love story of Solo and Adaobi. They met at a mutual friend's wedding party, Solo captivated by her warm smile. It was love at first sight and in next to no time, were married in a grand traditional ceremony. Their marriage was idyllic with nothing but happiness and laughter for a couple of years, but over time, the absence of children began to widen the gap between them.
At first, they laughed and played it off as God's time being the right time but the hushes from neighbours and family became so loud that they couldn't ignore them anymore. Solo's mom once hinted he needed to find a new wife since Adaobi was barren, while some of his friends joked that he was 'being damn too patient'.
Adaobi withdrew into her shell, her laughter replaced by silent tears shed every night. She felt incomplete, unfulfilled because she could not have a child for the man she loved, she felt like she was failing him. Solo, as much as he tried could no longer hide his disappointment, he became more distant and spent more time away from home, making excuses about work. She felt her heart crack into pieces as she watched him change for the worse, the man she once believed will have her back no matter the storm.
As the tears poured unabated, she thought quietly to herself, wishing that God would give her the power to overcome whatever was coming next.
