PIC1000 - I have to finish this.... Today!

This is my entry for the #pic1000 picture prompt to write a story based on the this picture.

What I see

A man walking across a filed. He puts his hand on his gun ready for action.

What I feel

He is determined to take action against something that is out of of view.

My Story

He wasn't going to get away with this.

It had all started so positively. A few "jobs" for cash. I had been desperate and running a few packages seemed to be an easy way of making some money. At first it was great. The jobs weren't too difficult and it paid well. I could suddenly afford to pay my rent, buy new clothes, take my girl out.

However, Four Fingers then set me up. I was sure it was a setup but of course his goons saved me. I know owed him my life. Apparently.

That had involved taking on more risky jobs because I had to pay back what I owed. I didn't just have to drop of packages now but had to go in as backup for different meets he had with various gang members. Twice now, these had descended into gun battles and in the last one, I had taken a bullet in the arm.

It was just a nick but my life had flashed by me. How was I going to get myself out of this game? Four Fingers and his goons would kill me for sure.

When I thought things couldn't get any worse. They got worse.

It happened two days ago when Four Fingers visited me where I was working in my old man's self-store park. It was my father's business that he had built over the last couple of decades. It didn't pay that well but it was enough to keep him going.

Four Fingers loved the place and that is when he said to me, "Why have you been hiding this place from me? We can use it to store our product!".

He then repeated the usual message about me "owing" him. Why was I always in debt.

The thing is, I knew I was risking myself when I started doing jobs for Four Fingers. My dad though, he was innocent. He was a good guy, helping others out and always doing the right thing. He really didn't need the risk of hosting Four Finger's shady business products and the goons that would bring in their guns and violence.

I had to do something to stop this. Whatever the cost.

So here I was. Walking across the field towards the warehouse where Four Fingers ran his business in the mornings. I put my hand on my gun. It was now or never.

I had to finish this……. Today!
