"Central Bank Digital Currency (Control)" by Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

central bank digital currency (control).jpg

[Ultra fine point Sharpie on reclaimed cardboard over printed book cover with digital embellishments and color tweaking.] According to most of the research that Stellabelle has been sharing lately, CBDCs (central bank digital currencies) are not only COMING, but they're coming for your autonomy. Will peeps accept the convenience of this new tech / money / social contract system, or will they resist giving up their freedom to make choices of their own as a central agency gains the ability to "turn off" people's money or control where they can travel. If even a portion of the trouble suggested by these spooky tales is true, the whole situation becomes tyrannical almost instantly...

Maybe - just maybe - we should avoid allowing this to happen... (Says the guy with a digital payment system on his phone in his pocket, right now!) Education is key...

---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

P.S. - I'm making 101 of these and throwing them in the pool for a measly 0.013 tezos each... Doing my part for THE PEOPLE!

"THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS ARE ALTERNA-RAWK GODZ!

Way back in 2020, Mariah and I bought tickets to see They Might Be Giants in concert - but then something odd happened, and the whole world shut down, so the show was postponed... Fast forward a couple of years, and the show was rescheduled...and then postponed, AGAIN, for another year!

Finally, yesterday, almost three years after we bought our tickets, we drove to the war-zone that used to be Portland, Oregon, to see the show! It was absolutely worth the wait!

We found a parking spot just around the corner from the Crystal Ballroom for the not completely insane price of $13.00, then toodled to a bar, called McMenamins Ringlers Pub, for some pizza. This bar LOOKS amazing (in that old-school-Portland, freaky, eclectic style) with sculptural elements, vintage memorabilia, and mosaic tile everywhere. (The music playing on the overhead was also good...)

After we finished our grub, we slink-slank-slunk over to the entrance to the Ballroom and got in line. (I forget how much Portland loves to smoke, but everywhere outside smells like cigarettes.) Being old and not fond of the "mosh pit," we asked if there was seating available anywhere in the building. (The tickets were General Admission.) We were told by a staffer that the balcony had limited seating, if we were over 21. (We were.) We climbed to the third floor - but all the seats were already taken, so we found a spot by a wall near the beer counter, and we plopped ourselves on the ground. (I lost my dignity after the 2nd flight of stairs, so I didn't care WHO saw me sitting on the floor.) And that spot is where we stayed for the rest of the concert.

Although I couldn't see the band, we still had quite a show... (Mariah and I are seasoned people-watchers.) We spotted folks wearing shirts for Ween, Cake, and similar niche performers; saw a metal dude headbanging to a song featuring accordian; noticed that we WEREN'T the oldest people there (by a LONG SHOT); made friends with a crazy hippie-lady; guarded the bucket that was catching the drips from the leak in the roof - and later guarded the SIGN that a bartender put out to warn people about the bucket; and...we heard some great tunes! (We know how to party!)

TMBG were in pitch perfect form. I would comfortably argue that the banter between band members ALONE was worth the price of admission. The world can be a dark place, so when you get a chance to laugh for a couple of hours, it only makes sense to me to take it. Mariah and I both left feeling better than we did arrived... Thank you, you crazy Johns! Mission accomplished: WE HAD A GREAT TIME!

---Richard F. Yates (Holy Fool)

P.S. - See that band if you get a chance, especially if you LOVE fun! (Grab your tix NOW for a great show in 2026!)"

UNFREE WRITING...

[The following is transcribed (minus the doodles and bad sketches) from my current notebook. It was written, ink on paper, on 21 Apr. 2023. TODAY is NOT 21 Apr. 2023 anymore... Time marches on...]

Mariah and I are going to see Duran Duran on June 1st. (I think that's the date.) The concert is going to be at the MODA Center [in Portland, Oregon, USA]... I think... (My brain is completely bad.) We'll have seats....

Will we eat food soon?? Probably wait until Mariah gets home... I wonder if Frankie will be home first today, or if it will be Alec... (Only time will tell...)

It's Friday. Weekends are meaningful again, now that Frankie is back to work. Freedom??

Felicity has no diaper on today, but she 100% refuses to go into the bathroom and try to us the toilet. As a confirmed germ-o-phobe, the idea of pee-pants really worries me - and makes me feel kinda sick.

I would love to take a nap. Been tired all week. Mentally FRAZZED...

[ x ] New car playlist for Mariah!!!

Time crawls. Felicity ONLY wants to play with baby dolls and watch BABY SHOWS. She won't do anything that I pick OR watch anything that I enjoy. [Yes... I spend hours arguing with a toddler...and LOSING...]

Although, we did record a short interview on FaceBoot Spaces today. (I wonder if it would be possible to download it and save it... ??? We have several recorded bits on my phone that I could turn into AUDIO-cryptoart!)

Where is Grandma? Where is Grandma??? Zee zee zum zum...

It's a Small World After All...

Shazbot. Looking our for number one... Felicity is playing BABY GARBAGE RIDER! (She's packing a naked baby doll around in a toy garbage toter. Interesting...)

Someday, over the rainbow. Lost in the flotsome + jetsome... (Extra "e"'s on those?)

Leftover chicken spag for lunch, I believe... The black kitten is being turbo again (which hurts...)

Spongebob... I liked thaht kids' show, so Felicity won't watch it. There are a lot of kids' shos that I DO like, but she won't watch any of them... only "baby shows."

And I don't like cats. Ate leftovers. Might get a bowl of cereal pretty soon... Wouldn't be terrible, would it???

Astro-Blast (Game for Intellivision.)

12:30 P.M. I asked Felicity if we should do something else, and she said, "I like watching baby shows." Kids...

Next week (I told Felicity) we are only going to watch, like, one hour of t.v. per day. Alec is off Monday, but I'll come up with a schedule for Tues thru Fri. (Might need to get supplies. (Perhaps a $ store run?) Stuff we might do: ---puzzles ---sidewalk chalk ---pictures (take photos) ---try [to record] a video or two ---new postcards (get addresses from Frank) ---latch hook? (I have some in a box) ---record music ---SOCK PUPPETS ---practice writing letters ---make a book (or two) ---go outside (weather permitting)

I used to be able to entertain Frankie AND Ellie all summer for about five dollars per week. I should be able to do the same with the little kid, right???

Someday, we'll be able to get little electronics / circuit building kits and make little machines and sythesizers and radios and stuff. Eventually, I want us both to learn to write computer code and build our own systems!

Should I look for old tech that we might still have floating around, like a mini-video camera or that blue cassette player, and see if Felicity likes playing with those? We'll see...

One o'clock. Who has time for ARTZ when we're just trying to survive...

Fear is the Minkkiller... (??) Long time. Fleep... Sleep. BEEP...

Going places and doing things... Splash! Flash foreward three hundred years. Will you still be happy with your purchases??

Should I have my hair cut off??

Who will end up with all of these notebooks? Mr. Landfill? Probably. There is SO MUCH nothing in all of these thousands of pages... If I were REALLY worried about all my notebooks going into the trash after I smurf out, I COULD start scanning them and publish them on some blockchain...

I asked the Internet, a few days ago, how many blockchains have 'died.' ??? I still don't know, but as long as a node or two SOMEWHERE is still functioning, I think the info on the chain can still be accessed and read. It doesn't need to be worth a billion dollars, as long as the information it contains is still intact. Distributed ledgers are cool... (Does it NEED to be a blockchain?)

I should read a couple of books on how blockchains and networks function...

How important is cryptocurrency to blockchain operations and data protection???

1:37 P.M. - Felicity ALMOST looks like she's going to take a nap. Should I make her put a diaper on?? (Why am I asking you??)

Electric bicycle!! (Should I get one of those, with a big basket on the front??) I could take the bike to the stare to get groceries!!! (Or something...)

I wonder how difficult it would be to find my watercolor pencils. (I got a small set from Sketch Box.)

My supply or art making junk is slowly dwindling... I'm making a BUNCH of art. (Always making a bunch of art.) I made bad art and silly stories for seven years on my old blog - and never made a dime. Since adding blockchain platforms to my output, I've made LOTS of cash (relatively speaking...) Not, like, buy a HOUSE money, but occassionally being able to buy frozen yogurt cash... That's pretty neat, right??

1:56 P.M. - Have you checked the children???

[ ] Scan new postcards and [ ] share.

Should I make a brand new blog for the POSTCARD MUSEUM??? (I can reprint all the old posts from Steem / Hive, plus add NEW entries...)

I have to ask Felicity every few minutes if she needs to use the bathroom. She almost always says "NO."

Sunny afternoon. Still kind of chilly. That's spring in the Northwest. Never really gets TOO hot here. Three cats sleeping around me on the couch. No nap for Grandpa or the Little Kid, though...

What is the PURPOSE of all of this?? Maybe the question is meaningless.

2:15 P.M. - Should I eat a bowl of cereal?? Nobody knows! (I have about $30.00 on my 'business' card that I can use to buy groceries this weekend, if we need any... Gotta eat, every now + then...)

LAST OF THE RED HOT PROCRASTINATORS

HOW MANY?

---'Tangerine Speedo' (and other fun songs)

2:54 - I ate cereal. Felicity is munching some, now, too. (I made her put all of her toys that were on the floor into a basket before I got her a snack. Grandpa is pretty mean!)

Still sunny outside. Maybe we can shill in the backyard this weekend... Perhaps...

Ok. Archive fever. Ink in the aisles! Place your sacrifice on the altar and flush...

(Songs...)

---They Might Be Giants - 'Ana Ng'

Songs that are fun.... (For [maybe] backyard + Mariah's car)

---Bee Gees -
---Ween - 'Beacon Light'
---Caviar - 'Tangerine Speedo'

Alec is home. Felicity is a little cranky. No nap today, but no potty accidents, either. That's pretty good!

Not sure what the plans are for this weekend. We should [ x ] go visit grandma, at some point. Felicity has tee-ball practice tonight and a game tomorrow...

I could work on more postcards / mail-art to send out, too...

Pickle weasel. Bubble pop. Top down drag race. Nomenclature in nature.

No style...

Kindle has released a new 'like paper' tablet that lets you write with a stylus / pen right onto the screen... I'm not 100% sure what the advantage would be over what I'm doing RIGHT NOW with this pen. I suppose I should read more about it and see what the big deal is...

---Leona Naess - 'All the Stars'
---Bob Marley - 'Three Little Birds' & 'Punky Reggae Party'

(End transcription...)
