Hello anime fans. Today I bring you one last top for this summer season that has already said "goodbye". This time it's time to talk about the romance genre, another one that is very popular in the anime world. And I, apart from being a fan of the action and fantasy genre, I am also a fan of the romance genre. That's why on this occasion I want to tell you about five anime that I have watched in these past few months and that I bring to you in this post for your choice. I understand that those who see this list already know for a long time many popular and not so popular romance or romantic comedy anime that have touched the hearts of many. While it is true that this genre has been equally exploited by many generic love stories and pure cliché, in the meantime you can sometimes find a gem or two that is worth watching. And in this top may also be the case.
I remind you once again that these tops are made by rating the anime from 1 to 10 taking into account the genre, the story, the character development and the technical quality of each one. I make this list starting with the one with the lowest rating and ending with the one with the highest rating. Keep in mind also that what I will say about these five anime is an opinion I draw after having watched all their full episodes during their broadcasts, so I would quite appreciate it if you give it the due value you think this top deserves. Lastly, obviously, what you will read will be purely and simply my personal opinion, so I'm sure you will have a different opinion of some anime I mention below, and if that's your case, then I invite you to let me know in the comments.

Hola fanáticos del anime. El día de hoy les traigo un último top para esta temporada de verano que ya nos dijo “adiós”. Esta vez toca hablar del género de romance, otro que es muy popular en el mundo del anime. Y yo, aparte de ser un fanático del género de acción y de fantasía, también soy fanático del género de romance. Es por eso que en esta ocasión les quiero hablar de cinco animes que he visto en estos últimos meses y que les traigo en este post para elección de ustedes. Comprendo que los que vean esta lista ya conocen de hace tiempo muchos animes de romance o comedia romántica populares y no tan populares que han calado en el corazón de muchos. Si bien es cierto que este género ha sido igual de explotado por muchas historias de amor genéricas y puro cliché, entre tanto se puede encontrar a veces una que otra joya que sí vale la pena ver. Y en este top puede que también sea el caso.
Les recuerdo una vez más que estos tops los hago calificando los animes del 1 al 10 teniendo en cuenta el género, la historia, el desarrollo de los personajes y la calidad técnica de cada uno. Esta lista la hago empezando con el de menor calificación y terminando con el de mayor calificación. Tengan en cuenta también que lo que diré de estos cinco animes es una opinión que extraigo luego de haber visto todos sus episodios completos durante sus emisiones, así que apreciaría bastante que le den el debido valor que creen que merece este top. Por último, evidentemente, esto que leerán será pura y sencillamente mi opinión personal, así que seguramente tenga algunos una opinión diferente de algún anime que mencione a continuación, y si ese es tu caso, entonces te invito a que me lo dejes saber en los comentarios.

Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian
Let's start with a generic romantic comedy anime that only stands out for the popularity it has achieved on the internet due to the main character, who is supposedly Russian (but in the end the character's voice doesn't even know how to pronounce Russian well, which caused a controversy even on the internet). Based on the eponymous light novel series written by SunSunSun (I want to imagine that this is not her real name) and illustrated by Momoco, this anime adaptation was produced by Doga Kobo studio. The anime tells the story of Alisa Mikhailovna Kujo, a silver-haired high school girl who attracts everyone's attention. She sits next to Masachika Kuse, who is always sleeping and complaining in class. Alisa occasionally speaks Russian to compliment Kuse since she has a crush on him, but what she doesn't know is that our lazy protagonist also knows Russian.
Yes, I know, it has an interesting premise, really. And it is striking how this anime plays with the viewer's mind making us think: "what would happen if she realizes that the protagonist to whom she has always said nice things in Russian understood her all this time since she also knows how to speak Russian?". And with the intention of seeing a worthy development of said premise, well... we find ourselves with a series of episodes with an absurd amount of "Fanservice", awkward moments, double meaning jokes and secondary characters that only manage to capture the attention because of their personality or because they literally break the fourth wall. But otherwise, it's not like we see a breakthrough or a remarkable development in this relationship that we see from the beginning between Kuse and Alisa. More is what we can see of the protagonist's story, his family and one or another secondary character that is also related to him and his family or past.
But well, apart from those small dramatic details of everyday life, with the occasional mention of one or another controversial or popular topic in today's society, what we end up seeing is two young people throwing hints and talking about common high school issues, such as the candidacy for president of the student council of the school where they are studying and little else. On the other hand, as for the animation, you have to give it some points in favor because, although it is noted that they take more pains to deliver unnecessary shots of female characters in embarrassing moments, the detail and quality along with the fluidity they have in the animation is to be appreciated, especially in the Opening. And speaking of that, the soundtrack is one of those few highlights as well, with the Endings of each episode being covers of popular Openings, it seems. But otherwise, it's an anime that became popular purely because of the "Fanservice", no more, no less.
Personally, I give it a 6/10 rating as far as the romantic comedy genre is concerned.

Empecemos con un anime de comedia romántica genérica que solo se destaca únicamente por la popularidad que ha conseguido en internet debido a la protagonista, la cual es supuestamente rusa (pero al final la voz del personaje ni sabe pronunciar bien el ruso, cosa que causó una polémica inclusive en internet). Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónima escrita por SunSunSun (quiero imaginarme que este no es su nombre real) e ilustrada por Momoco, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio Doga Kobo. El anime nos cuenta la historia de Alisa Mikhailovna Kujo, una chica de preparatoria de cabello plateado que atrae la atención de todo el mundo. Ella se sienta al lado de Masachika Kuse, quien siempre se la pasa durmiendo y quejándose en clase. Alisa habla de vez en cuando en ruso para tirarle piropos a Kuse ya que está enamorada de él, pero lo que ella no sabe es que nuestro vago protagonista también sabe ruso.
Si, lo sé, tiene una premisa interesante, la verdad. Y es que llama la atención cómo este anime juega con la mente del espectador haciéndonos pensar: “¿qué ocurriría si ella se da cuenta de que el protagonista a quien siempre le ha dicho cosas lindas en ruso le entendía todo este tiempo ya que también sabe hablar ruso?”. Y con la intención de ver un desarrollo digno de dicha premisa, pues… nos encontramos con una serie de episodios con una cantidad absurda de “Fanservice”, momentos incómodos, chistes de doble sentido y personajes secundarios que solo consiguen captar la atención por su personalidad o porque literalmente rompen la cuarta pared. Pero, de resto, no es que se vea un avance o un desarrollo notable en esta relación que vemos desde el principio entre Kuse y Alisa. Más es lo que podemos ver de la historia del protagonista, su familia y uno que otro personaje secundario que está relacionado también con él y su familia o pasado.
Pero bueno, aparte de esos pequeños detalles dramáticos de la vida diaria, con alguna que otra mención de uno que otro tema polémico o popular en la sociedad actual, lo que terminamos viendo es a dos jóvenes tirando indirectas y hablando de temas comunes de preparatoria, como es la candidatura a presidente del consejo de estudiantes de la escuela en la que están estudiando y poco más. Por otro lado, en cuanto a la animación, hay que darle unos puntos a favor ya que, si bien se nota que se esmeran más en entregar planos innecesarios de personajes femeninas en momentos vergonzosos, el detalle y la calidad junto con la fluidez que tienen en la animación es de apreciar, sobre todo en el Opening. Y hablando de eso, la banda sonora es de esas pocas cosas destacables también, siendo los Endings de cada episodio covers de Openings populares, al parecer. Pero, de resto, es un anime que se volvió popular puramente por el “Fanservice”, ni más, ni menos.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 6/10 en lo que respecta al género de la comedia romántica.

Pseudo Harem
Let's talk now about an anime that I consider ended up being very underrated, despite telling us a complete story (very important in this world of romantic comedies with mostly unfinished stories) and very beautiful. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Yū Saitō, this anime adaptation was produced by Nomad studio. In this anime we meet the love story of Eiji Kitahama and Rin Nanakura, who are two high school students who met at the school's drama club. Rin has a great talent for acting, which fascinates Eiji, who asks her to teach him what she knows in order to improve, even though he has been in the club for a year and she has just joined. Rin helps him, while playing a "Harem" of girls with different personalities who joke that they are in love with Eiji, thus hiding their feelings for him.
Although the name gives the impression of being one more RomCom with Harem and Fanservice as usual, the reality is completely different. The story, despite being simply an apparent love story and comedy, has everything it takes to be quite enjoyable. With an excellent relationship and development of both main characters, Eiji and Rin are undoubtedly the center of this entire work. What stands out the most is that the chapters are composed with short and normal stories or moments of both of them, with a very tender and funny style and tone. The way everything unfolds and they end up together is an adventure worth watching. And the best of all is that it has no fanservice, no awkward scenes and even less double-entendre jokes, but a much purer humor for all audiences.
On the other hand, the animation is not one of the best you can find in an anime, to be honest. But they do comply with showing a simple but somewhat detailed style, which stands out well in important moments. In addition to that, there are the sound effects and the beautiful soundtrack, which gives a touch of humor and romance in each chapter. Best of all, as I mentioned at the beginning, it's a complete story, with a beginning and an end and with lessons and characters that we can easily become familiar with as well. You don't see many romantic comedy anime of this style, with a story and characters that stand out so well without needing to draw attention to themselves in some way. But, despite being in this low ranking, I recommend it to anyone looking to get to know a good love story.
Personally, I give it a rating of 7.5/10 as far as the romantic comedy genre is concerned.

Hablemos ahora de un anime que considero terminó siendo muy infravalorado, a pesar de contarnos una historia completa (muy importante en este mundo de las comedias románticas con historias mayormente inconclusas) y muy hermosa. Basada en la serie de manga que lleva su mismo nombre escrita e ilustrada por Yū Saitō, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el estudio Nomad. En este anime conocemos la historia de amor de Eiji Kitahama y Rin Nanakura, quienes son dos estudiantes de secundaria que se conocieron en el club de teatro de la escuela. Rin tiene un gran talento con la actuación, lo cual le fascina a Eiji, quien le pide que le enseñe lo que sabe para así mejorar, a pesar de él tener un año ya en el club y ella apenas haber entrado. Rin lo ayuda, a la vez que interpreta a todos un “Harem” de chicas con distintas personalidades que bromean estar enamoradas de Eiji, ocultando así lo que siente por él.
Si bien el nombre da la impresión de ser un RomCom más con Harem y Fanservice de siempre, la realidad es completamente distinta. La historia, a pesar de ser sencillamente una aparente historia de amor y comedia, tiene todo lo que hace falta para poder disfrutarla bastante. Con una relación y un desarrollo excelente de ambos personajes principales, Eiji y Rin son sin duda alguna el centro de toda esta obra. Lo que más llama la atención es que los capítulos se componen con historias o momentos cortos y normales de ambos, con un estilo y un tono muy tierno y divertido. La forma en la que todo se desenvuelve y terminan juntos es toda una aventura que vale la pena ver. Y lo mejor de todo es que no tiene nada de Fanservice, no posee ninguna escena incómoda ni mucho menos chistes de doble sentido, sino un humor mucho más puro y para todo el público.
Por otro lado, la animación no es de las mejores que se puedan encontrar en un anime, la verdad. Pero cumplen con mostrar un estilo sencillo pero un tanto detallado, que destacan bien en momentos importantes. Sumado a eso, están los efectos de sonido y la hermosa banda sonora que tiene, la cual le da ese toque de humor y romance en cada capítulo. Lo mejor de todo, como ya mencioné al principio, es una historia completa, con un inicio y un fin y con lecciones y personajes que fácilmente podemos familiarizarnos también. No se ven muchos animes de comedia romántica de este estilo, con una historia y personajes que se destaquen tan bien sin necesidad de llamar la atención de algún modo. Pero, a pesar de estar en este puesto tan bajo, se lo recomiendo a todo el que busque conocer una buena historia de amor.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7.5/10 en lo que respecta al género de comedia romántica.

The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies
Now it's time to talk about an anime that mixes romantic comedy with fantasy in a curious way in a single simple yet absurd and funny story. Only by having the guaranteed seal of the studio that animated it, this work is positioned in this place. Based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Cocoa Fujiwara, this animated adaptation was produced by the great studio Bones. This anime introduces us to the right-hand man of the king of an evil organization, Mira, the mastermind behind it all. He meets his opponent and archenemy, Byakuya Mimori, a magical girl who stops all attempts of conquest of this organization. But what no one expected is that Mira would fall madly in love with Byakuya, her enemy. This premise is, at best, interesting and at the same time funny as it sounds like the typical love stories between characters from two different sides of a war.
While it is true that it is not one of the best love stories that can be found in this wide world of anime, we must admit the unique style of this work. When we talk about clichés and generic stories, we may think when watching this anime that it has a lot of similarities to the typical plots, and we may be right. And despite having elements of the fantasy genre, such as magical girls and all that, the whole work revolves around a typical love story of two people, who in the end neither end up together nor get to anything, ending just as they started (no, it's not a spoiler, relax). That's why, as for the characters, there's not much to talk about either, being both the main and secondary characters just mere characters that are there to entertain us with their absurd personalities and humorous monologue performances.
As much as we may get attached to the main characters, all this sentimentality ends in nothing when witnessing the awkward, funny and even double entendre moments that this anime has. Because yes, despite the style and the tender tone it conveys, the humor this anime has is somewhat dark, dealing with somewhat strong themes such as jokes and double entendre references. What stands out most of all in this work is only its animation, which being made by the popular studio Bones (studio that animated hits such as Boku No Hero Academia), has wonderful scenes and an incredibly fluid quality with very good details in the animation. The soundtrack also stands out a bit, especially the Opening with its colorful style and the melody of its song. The sound effects are excellent, worthy of the equally excellent animation that this romantic comedy gem has. If you want to watch an entertaining anime with 12/13 minute episodes and without much development and well animated, then I recommend watching this anime.
Personally, I give it a rating of 8/10 as far as the romantic comedy and fantasy genre is concerned.

Ahora toca hablar de un anime que mezcla de forma curiosa la comedia romántica con la fantasía en una sola historia sencilla y a la vez absurda y divertida. Únicamente por tener el sello garantizado del estudio que lo animó, esta obra se posiciona en este lugar. Basada en la serie de manga homónima escrita e ilustrada por Cocoa Fujiwara, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el grandioso estudio Bones. Este anime nos presenta a la mano derecha del rey de una malvada organización, Mira, el cerebro de todo. Este conoce a su contrincante y archienemiga, Byakuya Mimori, una chica mágica que detiene todo intento de conquista de esta organización. Pero lo que nadie esperaba es que Mira se enamorase perdidamente de Byakuya, su enemiga. Esta premisa es, como mucho, interesante y a la vez graciosa ya que nos suena a las típicas historias de amor entre personajes de dos bandos diferentes de una guerra.
Si bien es cierto que no es de las mejores historias de amor que se puedan encontrar en este amplio mundo del anime, hay que admitir el estilo tan único que tiene esta obra. Cuando hablamos de clichés e historias genéricas, puede que pensemos al momento de ver este anime que posee mucha similitud a las típicas tramas de siempre, y puede que tengamos razón. Y es que a pesar de tener elementos del género de fantasía, como lo son las chicas mágicas y todo eso, toda la obra gira en torno a una típica historia de amor de dos personas, que al final ni terminan juntos ni llegan a nada, terminando tal y cual como empezaron (no, no es un Spoiler, tranquillos). Es por eso mismo que, en cuanto a los personajes, no hay mucho que hablar tampoco, siendo tanto los principales como los secundarios solo meros personajes que están para entretenernos con sus personalidades absurdas y actuaciones con monólogos humorísticos.
Por mucho que podamos encariñarnos con los personajes principales, todo este sentimentalismo termina en nada al presenciar los momentos incómodos, graciosos y hasta de doble sentido que tiene este anime. Porque sí, a pesar del estilo y el tono tierno que transmite, el humor que tiene este anime es un tanto oscuro, tratando temas un tanto fuertes como chistes y referencias de doble sentido. Lo que más se destaca de todo en esta obra es únicamente su animación, la cual al ser hecha por el popular estudio Bones (estudio que animó éxitos como Boku No Hero Academia), cuenta con escenas maravillosas a la vista y una calidad increíblemente fluida con muy buenos detalles en la animación. La banda sonora también se destaca un poco, en especial el Opening con su estilo colorido y la melodía de su canción. Los efectos de sonido son excelentes, dignos de la animación igual de excelente que tiene esta joya de la comedia romántica. Si quieres ver un anime entretenido con episodios de 12/13 minutos y sin mucho desarrollo y bien animado, entonces te recomiendo ver este anime.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 8/10 en lo que respecta al género de comedia romántica y fantasía.

Days with My Stepsister
Returning to pure romance, this time we have to talk about an anime that, honestly, left me impressed by the quality both in animation and in the development of the story and characters. An anime that from now on I tell you that it does not have the same speed as the others on this list, in several ways. Based on the eponymous light novel series written by Ghost Mikawa, this anime adaptation was produced by the great Studio Deen. In the anime we meet Yūta Asamura, who after his father remarries, starts living together with the new members of the family, among which are his stepmother and stepsister named Saki Ayase. The two decide to have a relationship that is neither so affectionate nor so distant, with the intention of not negatively affecting their parents' relationship.
Despite showing a feeling of being a typical young love story, the truth is that it quite excels in developing the relationship of the main characters, Yūta and Saki, very well. Both of them, being strangers and at the same time family, have to find a way to create a sibling relationship and at the same time friends, classmates and later workmates that do not affect third parties, as is the case of their parents, who also live with them. What is fascinating is how each chapter details this process of development and relationship that the two have between the two points of view. With certain similarities, such as not depending on others and getting used to living alone, both get to feel something mutual over time that leads them to a somewhat complicated dilemma to carry.
The way in which this story is told, with a calm style and with several fixed shots, without such a rush in terms of one day after another, generates in the viewer the interest of feeling identified with the main characters. The influence and the effect of the presence of third parties is something key in this story of these two stepbrothers who later end up having a somewhat special relationship. The animation quality, on the other hand, is beautiful and very well detailed, as well as fluid in many moments. The sound effects so excellently placed and the soundtrack so well done are indispensable, as the anime also plays with those moments of silence that make you pay attention to every detail of each shot. All in all, an anime with a story neither too rushed, nor too slow. But it is just that, a love story, different and well done.
Personally, I give it a rating of 9/10 as far as the romance genre is concerned.

Volviendo al puro romance, en esta ocasión nos toca hablar de un anime que, sinceramente, me dejó impresionado por la calidad tanto en animación como en el desarrollo de la historia y los personajes. Un anime que desde ya les digo que no tiene la misma velocidad que los demás de esta lista, por varios sentidos. Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónima escrita por Ghost Mikawa, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el gran Studio Deen. En el anime conocemos a Yūta Asamura, quien luego de que su padre se casara de nuevo, empieza a vivir junto con los nuevos integrantes de la familia, entre los cuales están su madrastra y su hermanastra llamada Saki Ayase. Ambos deciden tener una relación ni tan afectiva pero ni tan distante con la intención de no afectar negativamente la relación de sus padres.
A pesar de mostrar una sensación de ser una historia típica de amor juvenil, la verdad es que se destaca bastante por desarrollar muy bien la relación de los personajes principales, Yūta y Saki. Ambos, al ser desconocidos y a la vez familia, tienen que buscar una forma de crear una relación de hermanos y a la vez de amigos, compañeros de clase y posteriormente de trabajo que no afecten a terceros, como es el caso de sus padres, quienes también viven con ellos. Lo fascinante es cómo cada capítulo detalla este proceso de desarrollo y relación que los dos tienen entre ambos puntos de vista. Con ciertas similitudes, como lo es el no depender de otros y acostumbrarse a vivir solos, ambos consiguen sentir algo mutuo con el tiempo que los lleva a un dilema un tanto complicado de llevar.
La forma en la que nos cuentan esta historia, con un estilo tranquilo y con varios planos fijos, sin tanto apuro en cuanto a un día tras otro, genera en el espectador ese interés de sentirse identificado con los personajes principales. La influencia y el efecto de la presencia de terceros es algo clave en esta historia de estos dos hermanastros que luego terminan teniendo una relación un tanto especial. La calidad de la animación, por otro lado, es hermosa y muy bien detallada, a la vez que fluida en muchos momentos. Los efectos de sonido tan excelentemente puestos y la banda sonora tan bien hecha son indispensables, ya que el anime también juega con esos momentos de silencio que te hacen prestarle atención a cada detalle de cada plano. En fin, un anime con una historia ni tan apresurada, ni tan lenta. Pero es solo eso, una historia de amor, distinta y bien hecha.
Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 9/10 en lo que respecta al género del romance.

Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!
We end this top now with what for me is the best RomCom of the season and one of the best anime of the year, without a doubt. And is that this anime is quite different from most of its genre by a single detail: although it tells love stories, none is the main one (I'll explain below). Based on the eponymous light novel series written by Takibi Amamori, this anime adaptation was produced by the great studio A-1 Pictures. The story revolves around Kazuhiko Nukumizu, a quiet high school boy who by pure chance of life witnesses the rejection of Anna Yanami, one of his popular classmates at school, by his childhood friend (typical cliché of falling in love with your childhood friend). Worst of all, Anna won't be the only unlucky girl to meet our protagonist in this anime.
The plot is interesting at best, because while it presents us with a typical love story with a tragic breakup, the story at the end focuses on that relationship that our protagonist develops with those girls who ended up heartbroken using Nukumizu as their consolation friend. But the most interesting thing of all is that it is just that, there is nothing beyond that, as throughout the anime we are introduced to the "Harem" of girls that our protagonist meets and we are detailed the love stories of each one. Like an outcast club, this group experiences awkward moments and statements with somewhat tearful endings. It is, in retrospect, the story of the secondary character who is always there to support the protagonist and ends up being rejected when he/she proposes to his/her childhood friend.
Aside from the story, which is evidently very different from most generic anime in the world of romantic comedy, this anime also stands out very well for the incredible work in its animation. And it has nothing more and nothing less than the studio A-1 Pictures, which demonstrates the tremendous detail and fluidity of animation that has this work in each of its chapters. And not only that, the sound effects and the work of the voices of the characters are simply a marvel, an excellent job. The soundtrack, on the other hand, is also another plus for this anime, as it has an Opening of ten with a style and a rhythm without equal, as well as its Ending, which both play with the best of everything previously mentioned. Anyway, this is another anime that I recommend you to watch, without any doubt, if you are looking for something very well done and at the same time very different from most anime of its genre.
Personally, I give it a well-deserved rating of 10/10 as far as the romantic comedy genre is concerned.

Finalizamos este top ahora con el que para mí es el mejor RomCom de la temporada y uno de los mejores animes del año, sin duda alguna. Y es que este anime se distingue bastante de la mayoría de su género por un solo detalle: si bien cuenta historias de amor, ninguna es la principal (ya les explico a continuación). Basada en la serie de novelas ligeras homónima escrita por Takibi Amamori, esta adaptación animada fue producida por el grandioso estudio A-1 Pictures. La historia gira en torno a Kazuhiko Nukumizu, un chico tranquilo de secundaria que por pura casualidad de la vida presencia el rechazo de Anna Yanami, una de sus compañeras populares de su escuela, por parte de su amigo de la infancia (típico cliché de enamorarse del amigo de la infancia). Lo peor de todo es que Anna no será la única chica desafortunada que conocerá a nuestro protagonista en este anime.
La trama es, como mucho, interesante, ya que si bien nos presenta una típica historia de amor con una ruptura trágica, la historia al final se centra en esa relación que nuestro protagonista desarrolla con esas chicas que terminaron con el corazón roto usando a Nukumizu como su amigo de consuelo. Pero lo más interesante de todo es que solo es eso, no hay nada más allá, ya que en todo el anime nos presentan al “Harem” de chicas que conoce a nuestro protagonista y nos detallan las historias de amor de cada una. Como si de un club de rechazados fuera, este grupo vive momentos incómodos y declaraciones con finales un tanto lacrimógenos. Y no solo eso, los efectos de sonido y el trabajo de las voces de los personajes son simplemente una maravilla, un excelente trabajo. La banda sonora, por otra parte, es también otro punto a favor para este anime, ya que cuenta con un Opening de diez con un estilo y un ritmo sin igual, al igual que con su Ending, el cual ambos juegan con lo mejor de todo lo anteriormente dicho.
