Hello dear friends of TheAnimeRealm, I hope you are feeling great today. This time I'm going to talk about the anime: Record of Ragnarok... I saw it some time ago and I felt like talking about it. When I finished watching this anime, I must say that I had mixed feelings, this series has too much potential to be one of the best series that have ever existed.... The premise is basically super crazy, we have a huge death match between gods and humans... all this to try to save humanity from extinction. We have 13 legendary gods facing off against 13 humans from different times in history, each giving it their all...

Getting deeper into the story, I think this premise may appeal to many people... I think one of the most favorable points is the representation of the gods, these are tired of the endless mistakes of humanity and decide to eliminate them once and for all... surely you will easily recognize several of them, if you are a fan of mythological stories... these gods want to eliminate everything, but then one of the valkyries intervenes and suggests a kind of tournament called Ragnarok. A multi-round battle with the best of humanity facing off against the gods to see who comes out on top, if the humans win at least 7 rounds, it will get them to survive for another 1000 years.... The concept feels super epic and there is that interesting sense of anticipation as you realize you are about to witness some mammoth level battles.

The first season of this anime features three major battles, each battle felt unique to me and brings historical figures or gods showing different styles and motivations, bringing everything to the table. The first fight is a classic display of brute force, while the second is sure to leave many of you with a lump in your throat and this one is based mostly on strategy. And my favorite of course was the third battle, where there is a lot of emotional weight in every blow... the denouement is incredible.

En esta ocasión les voy a hablar del anime: Record of Ragnarok.. lo vi hace algún tiempo y me dieron ganas de hablar de él. Al terminar de ver este anime, debo decir que tuve sentimientos encontrados, esta serie tiene demasiado potencial para ser de las mejores series que han existido.. La premisa es básicamente super alocada, tenemos un combate enorme a muerte entre dioses y humanos.. todo esto para intentar salvar a la humanidad de la extinción. Tenemos a 13 dioses legendarios enfrentándose a 13 humanos de diferentes momentos de la historia, cada uno dando lo mejor de sí..

Metiéndonos más adentro en la historia, creo que esta premisa puede atraer a muchas personas.. creo que uno de los puntos más favorables es la representación de los dioses, estos están cansados de los interminables errores de la humanidad y deciden eliminarlos de una vez por todas.. seguramente reconocerán fácilmente a varios de ellos, si son fanáticos de las historias mitológicas.. estos dioses quieren eliminar todo, pero entonces una de las valkirias interviene y sugiere una especie de torneo llamado Ragnarok. Una batalla de varias rondas con lo mejor de la humanidad enfrentándose a los dioses para ver quién sale vencedor, si los humanos ganan al menos 7 rondas, se conseguirá que ellos puedan sobrevivir durante otros 1000 años.. El concepto se siente súper épico y existe esa sensación interesante de anticipación cuando te das cuenta de que estás a punto de presenciar unas batallas de niveles descomunales.

La primera temporada de este anime presenta tres grandes batallas, cada batalla me pareció única y trae figuras históricas o dioses mostrando diferentes estilos y motivaciones, poniendo todo en la mesa. La primera pelea es una exhibición clásica de fuerza bruta, mientras que la segunda seguro los dejará a muchos de ustedes con un nudo en la garganta y esta se basa más que todo en estrategia. Y mi favorita por supuesto fue la tercera batalla, donde hay mucho peso emocional en cada golpe.. el desenlace es increíble.

As for the technical aspects, well, we have to talk about the quality of the animation.... Honestly, I found it disappointing at times, when I first saw the trailer I was super excited, because the manga has some really beautiful and dynamic illustrations... But in this anime it feels like they weren't up to par animating everything about it, and it feels like they woke up to a lot of potential.. The animation sometimes feels stiff and the fights, which should be impressively epic, feel sometimes slow and anticlimactic. There are moments where it feels like we're watching a comic book in motion, and not a show that is fully animated, they resort a lot to static images moving from one place to another, instead of fluid movement... And I think that's a shame because the source material absolutely deserves a better adaptation.

I think if any of you are familiar with the manga, you will know that the action sequences are drawn with a lot of energy, and obviously you must have been disappointed, as the anime didn't take this and amplified it, but instead we got something half-baked.. I feel like it's not the worst animation I've seen, I mean, it's not gross.. but when you're watching the gods and all the legendary figures facing off, I think you expect a bit of an epic level in the battles..

En cuanto a los aspectos técnicos, bueno, hay que hablar de la calidad de la animación.. Honestamente, me pareció decepcionante en algunas ocasiones, cuando vi el tráiler por primera vez estaba súper emocionado, porque el manga tiene algunas ilustraciones realmente hermosas y dinámicas.. Pero en este anime se siente como que no estuvieron a la altura animando todo lo relacionado con esto, y se siente que despertaron mucho potencial.. La animación a veces parece rígida y las peleas, que deberían ser impresionantemente épicas, se sienten algunas veces lentas y anticlimáticas. Hay momentos en los que se siente como si estuviéramos viendo un cómic en movimiento, y no un show que está completamente animado, recurren mucho a imágenes estáticas moviéndose de un lugar a otro, en vez de un movimiento fluido.. Y me parece una lástima porque el material original absolutamente merece una mejor adaptación.

Creo que si alguno de ustedes está familiarizado con el manga, sabrán que las secuencias de acción están dibujadas con mucha energía, y obviamente debieron sentirse decepcionados, ya que el anime no tomó esto y lo amplificó, sino que en su lugar obtuvimos algo a medias.. Siento que no es la peor animación que he visto, o sea, no es asquerosa.. pero cuando estás viendo a los dioses y a todas las figuras legendarias enfrentándose, creo que te esperas un poco de nivel épico en las batallas..

But well, thinking about some good things, something I would like to highlight is the dubbing work... both the Japanese version and the Latin Spanish dubbed version are really interesting. They completely give life to the characters, Zeus, for example, sounds very arrogant, as you would expect from one of the most powerful and well known gods in the world.... I think the seiyus do an excellent job in Japanese, conveying the whole personality of the gods or the legendary humans, I think they allow you, despite the bad animation, to connect with them.... Another point I would like to highlight is the soundtrack, which does a good job setting the mood, either with some sound effects or with the triumphant and rising music after a key moment... I thought it was quite good, I think it manages to compensate sometimes the deficiencies of the animations...

One thing that this anime does well is to generate tension, during some duels they take care of showing the history of each character, along with different types of narration, this makes it add much more depth to the fights.. You get to understand what is the real perspective of the gods towards humans and why they ended up thinking this way, I think that many times, thanks to these views to the past, we can understand that these gods are not inaccessible or untouchable beings, as many would think... Quite the opposite, their flaws, their pride and even their fears are what make them vulnerable in these battles.. it's always great to see how fighters have a real emotional and personal motivation to get into these battles. I think all these motivations are deeply tied to their personalities and their reasons for being, it's impossible not to root for certain characters and want them to win against their opponents.. this is a great point for the story and the dynamic it presents us with.

Pero bueno, pensando en algunas cosas buenas, algo que me gustaría resaltar es el trabajo de doblaje.. tanto la versión en japonés como la versión doblada en español latino son realmente interesantes. Dan vida por completo a los personajes, Zeus, por ejemplo, suena muy arrogante, como esperarías de uno de los dioses más poderosos y conocidos de todo el mundo.. Creo que los seiyus hacen un trabajo excelente en japonés, transmitiendo toda la personalidad de los dioses o de los humanos legendarios, creo que permiten que, a pesar de la mala animación, logres conectar con ellos.. Otro punto que me gustaría destacar es la banda sonora, que hace un buen trabajo estableciendo el ambiente, ya sea con algunos efectos de sonido o con la música triunfante y creciente después de un momento clave.. me pareció bastante buena, opino que logra compensar algunas veces las deficiencias de las animaciones...

Una cosa que hace este anime bien es generar tensión, durante algunos duelos se encargan de mostrar la historia de cada personaje, junto con diferentes tipos de narración, esto hace que se le añada mucha más profundidad a los combates.. Llegas a entender cuál es la perspectiva real de los dioses hacia los humanos y por qué terminaron pensando así, creo que muchas veces, gracias a estas vistas al pasado, podemos entender que estos dioses no son seres inaccesibles o intocables, como muchos pensarían.. Todo lo contrario, sus defectos, su orgullo e incluso sus miedos son lo que los hacen vulnerables en estas batallas.. siempre es genial ver cómo los luchadores tienen una verdadera motivación emocional y personal para meterse en estas batallas. Creo que todas estas motivaciones están ligadas profundamente a su personalidad y a sus razones de ser, es imposible no apoyar a ciertos personajes y querer que ganen frente a sus oponentes.. esto es un gran punto para la historia y la dinámica que nos presenta.

Another thing I quite enjoyed were the character designs, specifically those of the gods... they look really impressive. There are some that look like real warriors, and they have an interesting personality that goes perfectly with the type of gods they are...I think at some points they look really wild, even if some of their designs are unconventional, some gods present a manic energy that is always interesting to see. Also the humans have cool designs that reflect their status as the best fighters in history.. there are designs that feel a bit simple, but it's good to see that behind that simplicity there is always a fierce determination and strength..

As I had mentioned, these battles have their good parts and their bad parts, but there are some times when you feel a constant problem of rhythm... there are times when the flashbacks, which I commented that they were interesting and necessary, appear in moments that completely cut the rhythm of the battle. I think they interrupt the flow of the action and make the fights go too over the top in multiple episodes.. this didn't quite add up for me. I found myself wishing several times that these flashbacks would be over and we'd get back to the action, because even though it sounds a bit repetitive, many people come to this anime wanting to actually see the battles..

Otra cosa que disfruté bastante fueron los diseños de los personajes, específicamente los de los dioses.. se ven realmente impresionantes. Hay algunos que parecen verdaderos guerreros, y tienen una personalidad interesante que va perfectamente con el tipo de dioses que son.. creo que en algunos momentos se ven realmente salvajes, aunque algunos de sus diseños sean poco convencionales, algunos dioses presentan una energía maníaca que siempre es interesante de ver. También los humanos tienen diseños geniales que reflejan su estatus como los mejores luchadores de la historia.. hay diseños que se sienten un poco simples, pero es bueno ver que detrás de esa simpleza siempre hay una feroz determinación y fuerza..

Como les había mencionado, estas batallas tienen sus partes buenas y sus partes malas, pero hay algunas veces que se siente un constante problema de ritmo.. hay veces que los flashbacks, que si bien yo comenté que eran interesantes y necesarios, aparecen en momentos que cortan por completo el ritmo de la batalla. Creo yo que interrumpen el flujo de la acción y hacen que las peleas se excedan demasiado en múltiples episodios.. esto no me terminó de cuadrar mucho. Me encontré varias veces deseando que se acabaran estos flashbacks y volviéramos a la acción, ya que aunque suene un poco repetitivo, muchas personas llegan a este anime queriendo ver realmente las batallas..

To be honest with you, I liked the second season better than the first one... they introduce really powerful and interesting characters, with whom I felt more of a connection than with the ones mentioned before... They still drag certain flaws from the previous season, but the narrative feels a little more dynamic, I hope they continue to improve, because it is a story that gives for much more... I'm hopeful that with more budget and refinement they could give us much more legendary battles... Although it feels interesting to see how the gods fight with these humans, I would like a little more surprise in certain battles, I think the end of the second season leaves open a very interesting possibility of how the story will develop in a relevant way...

I think that despite the constant flaws I could find in this series, I will watch its continuation, since it is a story that manages to catch you and makes you want to know what will be the final outcome of everything... As for rating, I give it a 7.5/10. It has a gripping story and some memorable characters, but I feel it has a lot of room for improvement. If you are a fan of mythology or you like tournament type battles, then I encourage you to watch this series for sure you will end up liking it and be entertained... I'll leave you the opening below. Para ser sincero con ustedes, la segunda temporada me gustó más que la primera.. presentan a personajes realmente poderosos e interesantes, con los cuales sentí más conexión que con los mencionados anteriormente.. Todavía arrastran ciertas fallas de la temporada anterior, pero la narrativa se siente un poco más dinámica, espero que sigan mejorando, porque es una historia que da para mucho más.. Tengo la esperanza de que con más presupuesto y refinamiento podrían entregarnos unas batallas mucho más legendarias.. Aunque si bien se siente interesante ver cómo los dioses pelean con estos humanos, me gustaría un poco más de sorpresa en ciertas batallas, creo que el final de la segunda temporada deja abierta una posibilidad bastante interesante de cómo se desarrolle de una manera relevante la historia..

Creo que a pesar de las constantes fallas que pude encontrar en esta serie, me veré su continuación, ya que es una historia que logra atraparte y te hace querer saber cuál será el resultado final de todo.. En cuanto a calificación, yo le doy un 7.5/10. Tiene una historia atrapante y algunos personajes memorables, pero siento que tiene que mejorar mucho. Si eres fan de la mitología o te gustan las batallas de tipo torneo, pues te animo a ver esta serie de seguro acaba gustándote y entreteniéndote.. Les dejaré el opening por aquí abajo.
