Saint Seiya, una serie que marcó mi vida || The Older Days of Anime

¿Saben qué? Al buscar en Youtube el openning de la serie que acaban de visualizar, para compartirlo con ustedes, sin verlo venir, me pasó lo que he leído en algunos autores de este concurso: me puse a llorar. La nostalgia que sentí al escuchar y ver este video fue del tamaño del cosmos, ¡por Dios! Fue inevitable no llorar como el niño de 11 años que era cuando veía este anime por el canal venezolano Televen, de lunes a viernes a las 4:00 de la tarde. Por lo que decidí no ponerme muy técnico y al final dejaré los enlaces oficiales y los no tanto, para que busques, leas, veas y escuches lo que desees sobre este maravillosa serie animada. Así que , lo que leerás a continuación, será lo más subjetivo posible, ya que no puedo hablar de esta serie sin emocionarme; por lo tanto, dejaré que las palabras fluyan a través de mis dedos. Aquí voy.

Con ese openning en español me remonto a los años 90. Era yo un niño de 10 u 11 años que esperaba ansioso que fueran las 4:00 de la tarde para sentarme a ver mi serie preferida. Recuerdo que me preparaba mi merienda, bañaba y me sentaba a ver cada capítulo de la historia de Seiya, Hyoga, Shiryu, Ikki y Shun, cinco amigos (hermanos en el manga), que luchaban contra el mal para defender a Saori Kido, la reencarnación de la Diosa Atena y salvar a la tierra o incluso, al universo de las intenciones malvadas de muchos villanos que aparecían a cada momento.

Caballeros del Zodiaco es un anime sobre la amistad, la valentía, la superación personal. Esta serie marcó mi niñez y por ende mi vida entera, porque me enseñó el valor de la verdadera amistad: incondicional, pura, leal. Es una historia que te enseña desde sus inicios que nada importa más que los amigos, tus hermanos o la familia. Puedes cometer errores, puedes darles la espalda por un momento de confusión, pero si la amistad es verdadera y pura puedes redimirte y ser perdonado.

Saint Seiya está repleta de muertes. Es una serie Shōnen, es decir, su premisa son las batallas. Estos chicos, se desempeñan como caballeros o guerreros que luchan contra el mal, por ende siempre los veremos con sus vistosas armaduras peleando contra otros caballeros, usualmente más poderos que ellos. Por tal razón, como mencioné anteriormente, veremos muchas muertes, sin embargo, la mayoría de las peleas son precedidas por una conversación entre nuestros jóvenes protagonistas y el malo de turno. Esa conversación gira en torno a la razón de su lucha, cuál es la causa que defienden y tratan, sobre todo nuestros buenos amigos guerreros, de persuadir a sus enemigos de que se unan a ellos para luchar por la justicia y el amor. Es decir, en el fondo ellos no quieren pelear (a excepción de Ikki, el Fénix, a este sí que le vale madre si el otro se quiere o no unir, el solo quiere ver el mundo arder y no le gusta perder tiempo en conversaciones filosóficas, aunque cuando lo hace, sus discursos son memorables); en consecuencia, conversan, incluso mientras atacan o se defienden. Algunos “malos” son convencidos y convertidos uniéndose al equipo de Atena, otros si bien son derrotados y en ocasiones mueren, antes de hacerlo reconocen su error y se arrepienten, algunos más, lamentablemente, obstinados en su razón, prefieren morir en su maldad.

Los santos o caballeros de Atena van dejando una estela de sangre, muertos y heridos, porque, honestamente, es una serie algo violenta; de hecho, en algunos países ha sido censurada parcialmente debido a su crudeza gráfica. Pero a la vez, van dejando una estela de amigos y de aliados por doquier. Estos jóvenes caballeros son la personificación de la amistad, el perdón, la nobleza, el valor y la superación personal, porque si algo nos enseñan Seiya, Ikki, Hyoga, Shun y Shiryu, es a superarnos a cada momento y en cada batalla. Es más, ahora que lo pienso, quizá ese deseo de superación constante que tengo desde muy joven, fue sembrado por esta serie.

No puedo seguir explayándome sobre lo que significa este anime para mi, sin presentarle a sus protagonistas. Por esta vez te hablaré sobre los cinco caballeros principales y sobre Saori Kido, que es la reencarnación de la diosa Atena. Aquí una corta descripción de cada uno desde lo que conozco de ellos después de tanto ver la serie, videos, leer y escrudiñar sobre cada uno a lo largo de estos más de 25 años.

Seiya.

El protagonista principal. Es en quien se basa la serie, de hecho su nombre Saint Seiya, significa, Santo Seiya (por razones religiosas, se le cambió, originalmente en Francia, el nombre a Caballeros del Zodíaco). Este adolescente con solo 13 años de edad, es un joven dinámico y alegre. De hecho, es el más bromista del grupo, comportándose en ocasiones de forma infantil. Terco y obstinado como una mula, su mayor cualidad es justamente no saber rendirse. Es poderoso, pero en comparación con otros, no lo es tanto, pero por ser el prota, siempre gana. Seiya es capaz de levantarse una y otra vez hasta vencer a su oponente. Su sentido del deber y la justicia es admirable. Sentimental y un gran amigo, es quien inspira a los demás (aunque en ocasiones tengan que salvarle el pellejo). Viste la armadura de Pegaso y está protegido por esa constelación. Sus ataques principales son: "Meteoro de Pegaso", "Cometa Pegaso".

Hyoga.

Un catire siberiano. En apariencia es frío como el hielo donde se entrenó, pero por dentro es un cálido y a veces débil niño que aún no supera la muerte de su madre, evento que lo marcó y no le deja sacar todo su poder. Es un líder del grupo y sus consejos o visión de las cosas ha permitido varias veces que se logre la victoria o se consiga algún objetivo que conduzca a ella. Viste la armadura del Cisne y está protegido por esa constelación. Sus ataques principales son: "Polvo de diamante" y “Rayo de aurora".

Shiryu.

El sabio y más ecuánime del grupo. Fue criado en China y transmite esa aura de serenidad y calma a otros. Equilibra muchas veces la ansiedad e impulsividad de Seiya y tiene un sentido del deber y la justicia como ninguno. No resiste que se metan con sus seres queridos, es celoso y puede enfurecerse a tal magnitud que sorprende verlo en esas actitudes violentas. Dispuesto siempre a sacrificarse de cualquier manera, es el que más veces ha muerto o perdido la vista por causa de sus batallas. Nobleza, serenidad y resiliencia, describen al caballero que porta la armadura del Dragón y es protegido por esa constelación. Sus ataques principales: “Dragón naciente”, “Ultimo dragón”.

Shun.

El más joven del grupo. Su apariencia frágil y débil, hace que todos quieran cuidarlo y protegerlo. En el anime es el hermano menor de Ikki. No le gusta pelear, de hecho es el que más sufre por ser un caballero. Es quien más golpe recibe de sus enemigos porque prefiere no atacar ni lastimar a nadie. Sin embargo, cuando se enoja o decide sacar toda su fuerza, explota con ataques supremamente poderosos. Es el más noble y humilde de todo el grupo. Temeroso, indeciso y llorón, pero no por ello inútil. Sus acciones han salvado la vida de muchos y las cadenas de su armadura son bastante convenientes en no pocas batallas y situaciones de peligro. Viste la armadura de Andrómeda y es protegido por esa constelación. Su principales ataques: “Cadena de Andrómeda”, “Torrente nebular”.

Ikki.

El badass del grupo. El frío, indiferente e independiente. No le gusta andar en grupos, de hecho fue el último en unirse al equipo. Un tipo rudo al que no le tiembla el pulso para atacar incluso a su propio hermano si es necesario. Es el regañón y motivador principal del equipo (cuando está presente, claro). Se echa unas pérdidas… pero aparece cuando más es necesitado y sus entradas son las más épicas de la serie. Ha sufrido mucho en la vida y eso lo hace ser duro, tanto por dentro como por fuera (es el único con una cicatriz en la cara), pero no por ello deja de tener un corazón bueno y noble. Es el único con una armadura indestructible que puede resurgir o regenerarse sola. (tal como el Fénix que rige sus poderes). Es el mayor del grupo y por ende quien pone el orden si es necesario. Viste la armadura de Fénix y es protegido por esa constelación. Sus principales ataques son: “Alas del Fénix”, “Puño fantasma”.

Saori Kido.

Es una joven y bella mujer, nieta de un señor rico y poderoso, llamado Mitsumasa Kido, quien tiene una fundación y un orfanato, de donde salieron los protagonistas. Sin embargo, al inicio de la serie su abuelo fallece haciendo que Saori se sienta desamparada porque no sabe cómo seguir los pasos de su difunto abuelo, y mucho menos cuando descubre que ella es la reencarnación de la diosa Atena y que está a cargo de proteger a la tierra de los enemigos que deseen destruirla. Es una chica también muy noble, pero a la vez malcriada y caprichosa al principio, pero que va aprendiendo y asumiendo el rol que le tocó vivir. Inteligente y sacrificada, acepta su destino y vive en base a él. Si bien es sumamente poderosa, total, es una diosa, casi nunca la vemos en combate. Pero sí usando sus poderes para salvar a sus jóvenes guerreros o para enfrentarse en las batallas finales a sus enemigos. No tiene ataques en concreto, pero sus poderes incluyen: telequinesis, sanación, levitación, control sobre el alma y el cuerpo de otros, escudos de energía y con su báculo puede atacar, directamente o lanzando rayos de energía. En fin, es un dios, hace todo lo que un dios se supone que hace. Es prácticamente invencible.

Honestamente, pudiera seguir indefinidamente, pero este post sería sumamente largo y hasta los curadores me votarían nada más para que me calle. Esta serie me fascina, conozco casi todo ella. Aún a mis 37 cuando puedo me echo mis maratones viendo sus capítulos. Prometo mas publicaciones sobre mis héroes favoritos, esos que me enselaron elvalor de la amistad, la perseverancia, constancia y la supereción personal. Que me mostraron que cuando hay razones poderosas para lograr algo, nunca nos querremos rendir y aunque nos golpeen como y cuantas veces quieran, si lo desidimos, podemos levantarnos y con más fuerza.

Being in an anime community and not seeing posts about Saint Seiya, it's quite curious. But to participate in this OCD event and nobody mentions Saint Seiya or Knights of the Zodiac, that's pretty unprecedented and unusual, as well as unforgivable. Fortunately, @mvl230 was the first to participate in this magnificent contest and he did it justly talking about the saints of the goddess Athena.

Before I continue my post, I want to congratulate all those who have participated. I have watched several anime in my 37 years of life: Heidi, Dragon Ball, Super Champions, Sailoor Moon, among others. However, today I come to write about a series that marked my childhood: Saint Seiya or as it is known in much of the world, Knights of the Zodiac. And Seiya and his four friends/brothers, could not miss this anime party, read on to explain why.

Saint Seiya, is an animated series based on the manga Saint Seiya written by Japanese author and cartoonist, Masami Kurumada. It dates back to the '80s, specifically 1985. This manga was adapted to anime, as happens with some successful manga. Its first broadcast was on October 11, 1986 (almost a year after the manga's premiere) by the television network Tv Asahi and was produced by Toei Animation (the production company that still holds the rights to this anime series). According to Wikipedia, it had 114 episodes, an OVA (Original Video Animation) which was the Saga of Hades, of 31 episodes and an ONA (Original Net Animation) or exclusive series for Internet, which was the case of "Soul of Gold" or "Soul of Gold" of 13 episodes, in total 158. In addition, five animated films and a CG animated film have been produced, apart from several prequels and official sequels to the original story. An anime that marked the way for other anime that came later. Considered among the 100 best in history, since, a ranking made online in Japan and published in 2005 by TV Asahi of the 100 best anime of the history, Saint Seiya reached the number 11 position, while in another ranking made in 2006 it reached the number 25. With beautiful drawings and one of the most incredibly sublime and beautiful soundtracks you can enjoy. In fact, I have read and I subscribe to that idea, that one of the things that make Knights of the Zodiac such a memorable and splendid anime, is precisely the music composed by Seiji Yokoyama. The saints or knights of Athena leave a trail of blood, dead and wounded, because, honestly, it is a somewhat violent series; in fact, in some countries it has been partially censored due to its crude graphics. But at the same time, they leave a trail of friends and allies everywhere. These young knights are the personification of friendship, forgiveness, nobility, courage and self-improvement, because if Seiya, Ikki, Hyoga, Shun and Shiryu teach us anything, it is to surpass ourselves at every moment and in every battle. Moreover, now that I think about it, maybe that desire for constant self-improvement that I have had since I was very young, was sown by this series.

I can't go on explaining what this anime means to me without introducing you to its main characters. For this time I will tell you about the five main knights and about Saori Kido, who is the reincarnation of the goddess Athena. Here a short description of each one from what I know about them after so much watching the series, videos, reading and scrutinizing about each one throughout these more than 25 years.

Seiya.

The main protagonist. He is the one on whom the series is based, in fact his name Saint Seiya, means, Saint Seiya (for religious reasons, it was changed, originally in France, the name to Knights of the Zodiac). This teenager, only 13 years old, is a dynamic and cheerful young man. In fact, he is the most joking of the group, sometimes behaving childishly. Stubborn and stubborn as a mule, his greatest quality is precisely not knowing how to give up. He is powerful, but compared to others, he is not so powerful, but because he is the main character, he always wins. Seiya is capable of getting up again and again until he defeats his opponent. His sense of duty and justice is admirable. Sentimental and a great friend, he is the one who inspires others (even if sometimes they have to save his skin). He wears the armor of Pegasus and is protected by that constellation. His main attacks are: "Pegasus Meteor", "Pegasus Comet. "

Hyoga.

A Siberian catire. In appearance he is cold as the ice where he trained, but inside he is a warm and sometimes weak child who still does not get over the death of his mother, an event that marked him and does not let him bring out all his power. He is a leader of the group and his advice or vision of things has allowed several times to achieve victory or achieve some goal that leads to it. He wears the armor of the Swan and is protected by that constellation. His main attacks are: "Diamond Dust " and "*Aurora Lightning."

Shiryu.

The wise and most even-tempered of the group. He was raised in China and transmits that aura of serenity and calmness to others. He balances Seiya's anxiety and impulsiveness many times and has a sense of duty and justice like no other. He cannot stand to have his loved ones messed with, is jealous and can become enraged to such an extent that it is surprising to see him in such violent attitudes. Always ready to sacrifice himself in any way, he is the one who has died more times or lost his sight because of his battles. Nobility, serenity and resilience describe the knight who wears the armor of the Dragon and is protected by this constellation. Its main attacks: "Rising Dragon", *"Last Dragon".

Shun.

The youngest of the group. His fragile and weak appearance, makes everyone want to take care of him and protect him. In the anime he is Ikki's younger brother. He doesn't like to fight, in fact he is the one who suffers the most for being a knight. He is the one who gets hit the most by his enemies because he prefers not to attack or hurt anyone. However, when he gets angry or decides to bring out all his strength, he explodes with supremely powerful attacks. He is the noblest and most humble of the group. Fearful, indecisive and whiny, but not useless. His actions have saved the lives of many and the chains of his armor are quite convenient in more than a few battles and dangerous situations. He wears the armor of Andromeda and is protected by that constellation. His main attacks: "Chain of Andromeda", *"Nebular Torrent".

Ikki.

The badass of the group. The cold, indifferent and independent one. He doesn't like to hang around in groups, in fact he was the last one to join the team. A tough guy who doesn't hesitate to attack even his own brother if necessary. He is the main scold and motivator of the team (when he is present, of course). He takes a few losses... but he shows up when he's needed most and his tackles are the most epic of the series. He has suffered a lot in life and that makes him tough, both inside and out (he's the only one with a scar on his face), but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a good and noble heart. He is the only one with indestructible armor that can resurface or regenerate itself. (just like the Phoenix that governs his powers). He is the eldest of the group and therefore the one who brings order if necessary. He wears the Phoenix armor and is protected by that constellation. His main attacks are: "Wings of the Phoenix", *"Phantom Fist".

**Saori Kido.

She is a young and beautiful woman, granddaughter of a rich and powerful lord, named Mitsumasa Kido, who has a foundation and an orphanage, where the main characters came from. However, at the beginning of the series her grandfather passes away making Saori feel helpless because she does not know how to follow in the footsteps of her late grandfather, and much less when she discovers that she is the reincarnation of the goddess Athena and that she is in charge of protecting the earth from the enemies who wish to destroy it. She is also a very noble girl, but at the same time spoiled and capricious at first, but she gradually learns and assumes the role she has been given. Intelligent and self-sacrificing, she accepts her destiny and lives by it. Although she is extremely powerful, she is a goddess, we almost never see her in combat. But she does use her powers to save her young warriors or to face her enemies in the final battles. She has no specific attacks, but her powers include: telekinesis, healing, levitation, control over the soul and body of others, energy shields and with her staff she can attack, directly or by launching energy rays. In short, he is a god, he does everything a god is supposed to do. He is practically invincible.

Honestly, I could go on indefinitely, but this post would be extremely long and even the curators would vote me just to shut me up. This series fascinates me, I know almost all of it. Even at 37 when I can, I still have marathons watching the episodes. I promise more posts about my favorite heroes, those who taught me the value of friendship, perseverance, perseverance and self-improvement. They showed me that when there are powerful reasons to achieve something, we never want to give up and even if they beat us as and how many times they want, if we decide to, we can get up and stronger.
