When Kentaro Miura passed away in 2021, we Berserk fans were completely helpless to think that this would be the end of a story whose influence has reached far beyond the manga and anime industry. Many of us thought we would be left without an ending for Guts, Casca, Rickert and yes, Griffith as well. After his death, a chapter was published, which was his last work, and from then on the future of the manga was completely uncertain. Until we received the news that his work would be continued by his assistants, under the tutelage of Kōji Mori, to whom Miura revealed details of the end of his work before he died. Although at first, we were all a bit skeptical of having someone else in charge of Berserk, there was no choice but to accept it and move on.

The first chapters released without the hand of Miura behind them were criticized for their lack of dialogue and were not well received by the public. However, little by little everything took shape, and we had an impressive arc closure, which left everyone's mouths hanging open because of what had happened. Once again, Guts had lost what he wanted most at the hands of… Griffith!!!! The problem is that Mori seemed to be committed to carrying on the legacy of Miura in more ways than one and what had started with much more frequent deliveries than usual, this year has suffered from a familiar malady for fans of this manga: publication delays.
We cannot speak of a hiatus as such, but we can speak of an inconsistency in the delivery of chapters. That's why just a fortnight ago (and after four months of waiting) we received, AT LAST! A new chapter (374). This chapter marks a new arc called "Eastern Exile", of which not much is known yet, however, taking into account everything that happens in the chapter, I feel that interesting things are coming for the story, I hope I'm not wrong. As I am going to talk about what happens in the chapter, I warn you that from now on there will be spoilers.
The chapter begins with a group of Kushan enemies boarding the ship that Guts and his new companions are on. What follows is complete chaos on board, in which all of our protagonist's allies are taken into Kushan custody. We see how Guts is still in a completely sunken state and is easily "captured" by the invaders, however, before this installment ends we manage to see among the crowd of Kushan soldiers a familiar face: Rickert.
What had started out as just another chapter in which we would see Guts falling victim to the power of the hand and Griffith ended up turning into a surprise for me. Honestly, and from how the previous chapter had gone, I thought that this Kushan boarding would make Guts end up losing it and give carte blanche to the Beast to take over and do all the wrecking he wants to do. However, things happen completely differently, not only do the Kushan arrive mind-controlled by someone else, who we still don't know who it is, but they also don't hurt any of the people they just took as "prisoners".
Seeing Guts in a practically unconscious state while being "imprisoned" was another surprise, I don't know if he's still in shock from the abduction of Casca, or it's because the Beast is already taking over more and more of him, I'm crossing my fingers that it's the latter and that we'll have a bit more excitement and chaos later on. Although taking into account that presumably both Griffith and Guts are heading east, this is sure to get interesting very soon.
Though to tell you the truth, nothing impressed me more than seeing Rickert inside the Kushan army. There is no character in all Berserk that gave us a more satisfying scene than Rickert with that tremendous slap in the face he gave Griffith for everything he (the hdspm) let happen to the old Hawk Band. Having him back and as an apparent ally of the Kushans closed the chapter on a high note. If indeed Rickert and the Kushan have allied, that means that the meeting between him and Guts is imminent, something that would help the latter to get out of the depressive spiral in which his last encounter with Griffith and the abduction of Casca left him. But not only that, but the two would team up to destroy both Falconia and Griffith and his new (and detestable) Hawk Band.
This new arc began opening many paths in the story, but it has also left me with several questions, let's hope that in the next chapter (375) there will finally be the reunion of the ex-camarades and that we can have a little clearer the direction this arc will take. Unfortunately, and as usual for this work, there is still no definite date for its release, let's hope it arrives by the end of this month and that it doesn't take four months to come out, like 374.
Un nuevo capítulo finalmente ha llegado | Berserk 374
Cuando Kentaro Miura falleció en 2021, los fans de Berserk quedamos totalmente desamparados al pensar que ese sería el fin de una historia cuya influencia ha llegado más allá de la industria del manga y del anime. Muchos creímos que nos quedaríamos sin un final para Guts, Casca, Rickert y sí, también para Griffith. Posterior a su fallecimiento se publicó un capítulo, el cual fuera su último trabajo, y de ahí el futuro del manga fue completamente incierto. Hasta que recibimos la noticia de que su trabajo sería continuado por sus asistentes, bajo a tutela de Kōji Mori, al cual Miura le reveló detalles del final de su obra antes de morir. Aunque al principio, todos estábamos un poco escépticos de tener a alguien más a cargo de Berserk, no hubo más opción que aceptarlo y seguir adelante.
Los primeros capítulos lanzados sin la mano de Miura detrás fueron criticados por su escasez de diálogos y no fueron bien recibidos por el público. Sin embargo, poco a poco todo fue tomando forma y tuvimos un cierre de arco impresionante, que dejó a todos con las bocas abiertas por lo que había pasado. Nuevamente, Guts había perdido lo que más quería a manos de… ¡¡Griffith!! El problema es que Mori pareciera estar comprometido a seguir con el legado de Miura en más de un sentido y lo que había comenzado con entregas mucho más frecuentes a lo acostumbrado, este año ha sufrido de un mal conocido para los fanáticos de este manga: retrasos en la publicación.
No podemos hablar de un hiato como tal, pero sí de una inconsistencia en las entregas de los capítulos. Es por ello que hace a penas quince días (y después de cuatro meses de espera) recibimos, ¡POR FIN!, un nuevo capítulo (374). Este capítulo marca un nuevo arco llamado "Exilio Oriental", del cual aún no se sabe mucho, sin embargo, tomando en cuenta todo lo que acontece en el capítulo, siento que vienen cosas interesantes para la historia, espero no equivocarme. Como voy a hablar sobre lo que pasa en el capítulo, les advierto que a partir de ahora habrán spoilers.
El capítulo comienza con el abordaje de un grupo de enemigos Kushan al barco en el que se encuentran Guts y sus nuevos acompañantes. Lo que sigue es un completo caos a bordo, en el que todos los aliados del nuestro protagonista son puestos bajo custodia Kushan. Vemos como Guts aún se encuentra en un estado completamente hundido y es fácilmente "capturado" por los invasores, sin embargo, antes de que esta entrega termine logramos ver entre la multitud de soldados Kushan un rostro conocido: Rickert.
Lo que había comenzado como un capítulo más en el que veríamos a Guts siendo víctima del poder de la mano y de Griffith terminó convirtiéndose en una sorpresa para mí. Honestamente, y por como había quedado el capítulo anterior, yo pensé que este abordaje Kushan haría que Guts se terminara de perder y le diera carta blanca a la Bestia para apoderarse de él y hacer todos los destrozos que quiere hacer. Sin embargo, las cosas pasan de forma completamente diferente, no solamente los Kushan llegan controlados mentalmente por alguien más, que aún no sabemos quién es, sino que además no le hacen daño a ninguno de los que acaban de tomar como "prisioneros".
Ver a Guts en un estado prácticamente inconsciente mientras lo "aprisionan" fue otra sorpresa, no sé si sigue en shock por el rapto de Casca o es porque la Bestia ya se encuentra apoderándose cada vez más de él, cruzo los dedos para que sea esto último y que más adelante tengamos un poco más de emoción y caos. Aunque tomando en cuenta que presuntamente tanto Griffith como Guts se dirigen hacia el este, esto seguramente se pondrá interesante muy pronto.
Aunque a decir verdad nada me impresionó más que ver a Rickert dentro del ejército de los Kushan. No hay personaje en todo Berserk que nos haya dado una escena más satisfactoria que Rickert con esa tremenda cachetada que le dio a Griffith por todo lo que (el hdspm) dejó que le pasara a la vieja Banda del Halcón. Tenerlo de regreso y como un aparente aliado de los Kushan cerró el capítulo con broche de oro. Si efectivamente Rickert y los Kushan se han aliado, eso quiere decir que el encuentro entre él y Guts es inminente, algo que le ayudaría a este último a salir del espiral depresivo en el que lo dejó su último encuentro con Griffith y el rapto de Casca. Pero no solamente eso, sino que ambos se unirían para destruir tanto a Falconia como a Griffith y a su nueva (y detestable) Banda del Halcón.
Este nuevo arco comenzó abriendo muchos caminos en la historia, pero también me ha dejado con varias interrogantes, esperemos que en el siguiente capítulo (375) finalmente se dé el reencuentro de los ex-camaradas y que podamos tener un poco más claro el rumbo que tomará este arco. Lamentablemente, y como es costumbre para esta obra, aún no hay fecha definida para su salida, esperemos que llegue para finales de este mes y que no se tarde cuatro meses en salir, como el 374.
