Celebrating 2000 Rating on Antichess and sharing basic advice

surely for normal chess 2000 rating points is a target rating most of the time, in antichess it's similar but on a larger scale.

There are a minuscule amount of players who reach this figure, and I have just reached that number.

So this post will be about the road to the top and some useful tips for getting started in antichess.

The basics

  • The first player to run out of moves (kings can be captured) wins.

  • If you can capture a piece you have to capture it.

It's a bit more complicated than this but that's the basics, in the opening frame of the game there are a number of openings that we can use to set ourselves apart from the beginner players, if you have memorised openings in the base game this will be much easier for you.

The key to the game is to make your opponent commit as many captures as possible while avoiding your own, it's a concept that can be tricky to follow when facing positions where there are multiple captures.

One of my favourite games to illustrate how complicated the situation on the board can get, there are situations where you are completely lost by the fifth move and then you can jump to a win just because of a mistake by your opponent.

Keep an eye out for those catches!!!

Here is another game I played a couple of hours ago that has the same energy.

Same mistake, you get lost in one move and you are completely lost, the combinations are often forced and at this level it is very difficult to miss them, but it is fascinating how quickly the game ends once they happen.

I would love to make an Antichess tournament on hive, I'm not sure if it's interesting enough or if I'm the only one who sees it that way, but I'll leave this post here to encourage you to play.
