SPAWN: War of Heaven and Hell

He was an elite soldier who went to hell for killing many people. Then he was tricked by the devil and became a hero who fought angels as well as demons. I can't think of a better hero from hell. Spawn was way better drawn than any of the Marvel or DC comics at the time. Even though it was a revolutionary comic, it never made for a great movie or game.

I remember starting this in art class in Cascade Middle School in Washington state back in 1995. We were practicing the grid method and my teacher was disappointed I went to the comic or cartoon direction again so I abandoned this and drew a jet. Somehow it has survived the past 25 years. It looked like a perfect Procreate job so I decided to finish it after all these years on my iPad today.

I used the eraser tool to erase the grid marks and background.

Then covered the pencil and fixed some mistakes with the technical pin and dragged the black over to do a few bucket fills. I remember the reference to this drawing was ripped out of a Wizard Magazine. There is no way we would have ripped it out of one of our precious Spawn comic books that we kept in plastic. (We thought they'd be worth thousands of dollars one day.) Do any of you remember which comic book this was from?

I've tried so many apps to make GIFs, but they have all been a headache full of ads and watermarks. I was glad to see I could do it straight from Procreate and not deal with another bullshit app.

I used 11 shots at 2 frames per second. I think about 30 or 40 shots would've made for the best animation, but this is OK too. Thanks for checking out this sketch that's been waiting on the backburner for a quater century with me today. I still have hope that a good movie, series, or game will come of Spawn.
