On Our Independence Day

In Nigeria, our dreams took flight, on that independence night,
But now it seems, in our plight, we're stuck in a constant fight.

Elections, a twisted game, with malpractice as the aim,
They play for fame, but our nation's name, left in a state of shame.

Fuel prices soar, like a skyrocket's roar, we can't ignore,
Our wallets sore, while they explore, corruption's deadly core.

Poverty's grip, a vice-like hold, as stories of riches are told,
In mansions gold, they're living bold, while our futures fold.

Living standards high, but for the privileged few, oh my,
The rest comply, beneath the sky, wondering why, oh why.

Education's cost, a mountain steep, for the dreams we keep,
While they sleep, in power's sweep, our hopes buried deep.

Bad roads, a twisted maze, our cars in a constant daze,
A nation's craze, for better days, in a never-ending haze.

Oh, spare me the rhetoric
Of making this nation great again,
Lofty promises without meaning.
Our problems are far more endemic
Than a few bad leaders, I'll explain:
Our nation's foundation is rotted,
But blaming a single architect
Is too simplistic to contain
All the complexity of our pain.
