Ahora bien, si sólo son visibilizadas y publicitadas las expresiones artísticas de ciertos grupos sociales (ostentadores de un similar capital socioeconómico y cultural), implícitamente se está mermando y devaluando la posibilidad creativa de las otras comunidades y culturas, restringiéndose con ello su expresión simbólico-identitaria. De este modo, estos otros grupos sociales estarían siendo invisibilizados, tanto artística como semióticamente, frente a la representación simbólica de otros con más poder. Ante esta realidad, y a modo de resistencia, han surgido en el transcurso de la historia moderna distintos grupos de artistas que, con objeto de revalorizar la cultura popular y oprimida, se han situado en la berma opuesta del arte oficial y hegemónico, apelando desde aquella vereda a la resignificación de los oprimidos, mediante su visibilización y la organización comunitaria.
