schoolchildren in halasi, karnataka, india

hindavi and i are fond of visiting ancient sites, particularly temples so after attending a wedding in belgaum we visited the bhuvaraha narasimha temple in the tiny town of halasi. the 1000 year old temple is in the middle of the ancient town which was far more significant back in the days of the kadambas

anyway the town is very small now and the local school is located right next to the temple. there are not many visitors to this historical temple, and foreigners are a rare sight indeed. so when i passed the school i caused a bit of a scene for both teacher and pupils. we stopped and talked briefly with the teacher even though class was in session and i asked if i could take a photo of the children. the teacher consented and the children rushed to the door to get a better look at the tall foreigner and to be included in the shot.
