Walk with Ents in The Rain

IMG_20211228_101753_6.jpg

This could be the title of a song, who said that raining is boring?

I really need to check a couple of locations, to find the perfect spot to shoot my Friday song, so I drove around, and lost track of time.

The real challenge, is to imagine how it would look like once the sky is clear in a few days, because right now, it's just a mesh of grey fog, grey skies, and very little light.

Little river

That was the first spot that caught my attention, I thought that maybe working with the movement of the river could be visually stimulating while I play, but I've never notice water here before, I suspect it's only here because of the rain, and the little river will disappear in the next few days, I can always check it out soon.

First Ent

If you don't know what's an Ent, it's an ancient tree-being from The Lord Of The Rings universe. 😎
I thought everyone knew that, but if you don't, know that they speak really slowly and with a deep voice, and take...Their...Time to do anything.

You might come a year later, and an Ent will not appear to have moved much, but know that they see, and hear everything that happen in the forest.

Ed: Hello sir
Ent: (yawn)
Ed: herm...My name is Ed, and I am looking for the perfect shooting location.
Ent:...

Ed: I didn't mean any harm, I just need to play the guitar in the woods, do you know of a spot where I can film and play, without being shot by the hunters?

But the Ent kept silent. I kept on moving, and found some flat ground that could be a good spot, thought it looks like something collapsed here, it reminded me of quicksand from The Neverending Story. Let's move on.

Second Ent

No too far from the "quicksand", I bumped into another tree-being, not one bit interested in me:

Ed: Good day Sir, Madam. Excuse me to bother you, could you please direct me in the right direction? I am looking for...Never mind...

Third Ent

I didn't even bother engaging with that one, which looked pretty preoccupied.

All the Ents, were quiet today. I could have sworn that I heard the first tree was yawning, but nobody but me was here to witness it.

I wonder if the Ents kept silent, because of the distrust they have in humans, so many hunters around here.
They hide in small shelters, spread some corn on the ground, and wait several hours for birds (I guess) to come by.

2 terrible paths that are leading to nothing, I think it's time to move onto the next locations. Maybe I can shoot in front of the first Ent, on a clear day, it would look good, though it lacks the depth.

I move on to the next location I spotted not so long ago, the river looks pretty cool, but there isn't a flat spot to set up the equipment.

I go further to check if there is anything interesting.

...But I realize very quickly, that it's another dead end.

I drive another 15 minutes, up until a field that I come across often when going to the shops. I always wonder, that open space, would look cool with the trees behind.

I find a path that could lead me to that green field that I noted mentally, but I won't be able to reach it by foot today, not without boots, and the more I think about it, the more it doesn't appear that it's even close enough to carry all the recording equipment, guitar, etc...

I get back in the car, I had another location in mind, down that path, but it was raining like crazy, and decided to just give up on that one, this is where I lost my phone last year, bad memories haha.

IMG_20211228_112617_2.jpg

I was advised by a friend to go check on the top of the hill in that last area, it has view on the mountains, and is quite elevated.

Unfortunately there were 2 horses guarding my way to the top of the hill, and one of them was full of energy, I wasn't going to even try to cross the field!
Now, I am supposed to record tomorrow morning, but it will really depends if the skies are clear.

We have currently the highest temperatures for winter, ever recorded since the early years of monitoring, so I might be able to record in the morning and catch the early lights.

The horse blocked my way back, I had a gif of him getting all excited jumping on and off the road, but I think I've just reached the limit of the pictures I can upload.

I had another location that I didn't have the chance to show you, and it might be the one I'll be using for the next video. Shooting in the woods, is quite a challenge, as there is very little perspective, and the colors are all so similar. I think I like open spaces better, and playing on the contrast.

Walking in the rain was still a lot of fun, I will have to be on the look out for more interesting spots!

Cheers!
