I owe you a post about my walk in Puerto de La Cruz. My last two posts in this community portrayed part of what was the walk along the coast of Puerto de La Cruz, through the Muelle del Penitente and the Museo de Pescadores. The third part will be published soon, and in the meantime, I share with you a walk a few kilometers from there, also on the north coast of the island.

Mis últimos dos posts en esta comunidad retrataron parte de lo que fue la caminata a través de la costa de Puerto de La Cruz, a través del Muelle del Penitente y del Museo de Pescadores. La tercera parte la publicaré pronto, y, mientras tanto, les comparto una caminata realizada a unos Kilómetros de allí, también en la costa norte de la isla.
This walk was much wilder and was something a bit improvised but at the same time in a cautious way. I have already shared on my blog a few posts about Benijo Beach, including a video from 3Speak. Now, I will share with you what was the return, the walk back to the village of Almáciga, which was a little adventure on the wild coasts of Tenerife.
Esta caminata fue mucho más salvaje y fue algo un poco improvisado pero al mismo tiempo de manera precavida. Ya he compartido en mi blog algunos posts sobre la Playa Benijo, incluyendo un video de 3Speak. Ahora, les compartiré lo que fue el regreso, la caminata de vuelta al pueblo de Almáciga, la cual fue una pequeña aventura en las costas salvajes de Tenerife.
To return from Benijo Beach there are two options: climb the stairs and walk up the road until you reach Almáciga Beach at the top, or walk along the coast through a short but rocky path that connects both beaches.
Para regresar desde la Playa Benijo hay dos opciones: subir las escaleras y caminar por la carretera hasta llegar por arriba a la Playa de Almáciga, o caminar bordeando la costa a través de un sendero corto pero rocoso que conecta a ambas playas.
The second option was the faster and flatter option but with a more difficult trail to traverse and a slight danger of landslides. This is not a trail of earth and a few rocks, it is a trail of giant boulders and a bit of earth, in short sections. Despite this, I would say that this is a medium-easy trail, as it is not so difficult to walk, but somewhat uncomfortable.
La segunda opción era la más rápida y plana, pero con un camino más difícil de transitar y con ligero peligro de desprendimientos. No se trata de un sendero de tierra y unas pocas rocas, se trata de un sendero de piedras gigantes y un poco de tierra, en cortas secciones. A pesar de ello, yo diría que se trata de un sendero de dificultad media-fácil, ya que tampoco es tan difícil de transitar, pero si algo incómodo.
The high slopes of the coastal mountains of Tenerife make the danger of rock falls always relevant. Along this route, I could observe that there is some danger of this, although it seems not to be as potential as in other areas. There is an area near the start at Benijo Beach where there is a small water source that springs from the mountain. The scenery is a bit surreal but the water, especially in rainy seasons, can enhance landslides.
Las elevadas pendientes de las montañas costeras de Tenerife hacen que los peiigros de desprendimiento de rocas sean siempre relevantes. A lo largo de esta ruta pude observar que existe cierto peligro de ello, aunque parece no ser tan potencial como en otras zonas. Hay una zona cerca del inicio en la Playa Benijo en donde hay una pequeña fuente de agua que brota de la montaña. El paisaje es un poco surrealista pero el agua, sobre todo en épocas de lluvia, puede potenciar los desprendimientos.
Previously, I had already done some research and checked the maps of the place, not only the satellite maps but also the maps of hiking applications, through which I discovered that there is such a trail. After verifying that this small trail did not represent such great dangers, I decided to take it to cut the road and get to know new routes.
Previamente, ya había investigado al respecto y revisado los mapas del lugar, no solamente los mapas satelitales sino los mapas de aplicaciones de senderismo, a través de las cuales descubrí que existe dicho sendero. Tras verificar que este pequeño sendero no representaba tan grandes peligros, decidí tomarlo para cortar camino y conocer nuevas rutas.
At the beginning of the trail, at Benijo Beach, there is a small two-color sign (soft and yellow) that effectively indicates the presence of a hiking trail. There are sections of the trail that are not very well marked or there is no clear route, but since you have to walk parallel to the coast, the route is fairly obvious. This approximately 10-15 minute walk took me to Almáciga Beach.
Al inicio del sendero, en la Playa Benijo, hay una pequeña señal de dos colores (blando y amarillo) que indica efectivamente la presencia de una ruta de senderismo. Hay secciones del camino que no están muy señalizadas que digamos o no hay una ruta clara, pero al tener que caminar paralelo a la costa es bastante obvia la ruta. Esta caminata de aproximadamente 10-15 minutos me llevó hasta la Playa de Almáciga.
Almáciga Beach is another black sand beach, like Benijo, which is also really quite nice and with good views. On this beach, as on all the nearby beaches, you should be careful with bathing due to the currents. Almáciga is also the name of the small village nearby which is elevated above the beach. The views of the beach next to the village are really beautiful, which makes it worth the hike through this wild and rocky path.
La Playa de Almáciga es otra playa de arena negra, al igual que Benijo, que también es realmente bastante agradable y con buenas vistas. En esta playa como en todas las playas cercanas se debe tener cuidado con el baño debido a las corrientes. Almáciga es también el nombre del pequeño pueblo cercano que se encuentra elevado sobre la playa. Las vistas de la playa junto al pueblo son realmente hermosas, lo cual hace valer la pena la caminata a través de este sendero salvaje y rocoso.
After arriving at Almáciga Beach, the road was not over yet. I took the same way back from here. At the edge of the beach, after crossing the road, there is a path that goes a little inland and begins to climb until you reach the small village. I had already commented in my previous post about Benijo Beach that this village offers very picturesque views through its narrow streets. Finally, this return hike ends here. In total, from Benijo Beach to the village of Almáciga was 25 minutes, maybe a little more.
Tras llegar a la Playa de Almáciga, el camino aún no terminaba. Tomé el mismo camino de vuelta a partir de acá. En el borde de la playa, tras cruzar la carretera, hay un camino que se interna un poco tierra adentro y empieza a subir hasta llegar al pequeño pueblo. Ya había comentado en mi anterior post sobre la Playa Benijo que este pueblo ofrece vistas muy pintorescas a través de sus callejuelas. Finalmente, esta caminata de regreso termina aquí. En total, desde la Playa Benijo hasta el pueblo de Almáciga fueron 25 minutos, quizás un poco más.
