Thems was a young, intelligent boy in his early adulthood. He wasn't the most good looking, but his intelligence and his unmatched sense of humour usually gain him some attractions. As boys naturally have a late time towards emotional and romantic maturity, he had very little or no experience about relationships and being in one. He was naïve in terms of romance and relationship, and being highly intelligent does not necessarily earn one a high level of emotional maturity. But he was okay with himself not bothered about being in a relationship or anything of such.
On this good day, Thems received an interesting invitation by Lhems, a pretty dark skin, tall and innocent looking young girl. Even as a young man without knowledge of romance or any useful experience, her beauty was enough to make Thems marvel at the wonders of creation. With her warm and soothing voice, she requested academic support/aid from Thems. To Thems, what's knowledge if not shared! He quickly obliged, innocently.
A day of academic aid translated to daily meetings between Thems and Lhems. It was all innocent, being in the same school but different departments, Thems and Lhems usually meet after the day's work and after dinner, they study together till about 2 am in the morning. It's just the classy school love situation. But something was off, from the outside, Thems and Lhems are in a serious relationship, but between parties, there's no relationship other than that created by virtue of their academic needs.
Things continue innocent still. Thems remain a inexperienced person when it comes to love and romance so there were no love talks, or even attempts at making physical advances. Lhems felt comfortable as well (what else does a woman like more than a man that respects her?).
A day turn into a year and half, Thems and Lhems have spent at least 200 days together studying. In the long run, human nature kicked in without announcing itself. Without the knowledge of both parties, of at least to Thems, the regular meetings with Lhems is creating an unexpected bond. Both Thems and Lhems cannot spend a day without completing it with each other.
Things didn't exactly go sour, but after two years passed, Thems started observing Lhems with new gadgets, and unnecessary interruptions when spending time together. Thems remained unsuspicious not knowing what to expect or how to react. He wasn't bothered.
Towards half of the completion of the 3rd year with Lhems, the two years bond was breaking without an explanation. Lhems didn't see the need to offer any explanation, as at least nothing was said, nothing was done, and there wasn't any form of commitment. Thems feeling uncomfortable but can't really pinpoint the reasons for the way he feels, he as well didn't bother asking.
Eventually, Lhems stopped seeing Thems. Daily turned to weekly, weekly turned months, and eventually, Thems received the news that Lhems is getting married. Not from Lhems but from someone else. Thems still emotionally immature didn't know how to interpret the message, but he felt something and someway in his chest, something he wasn't felt before, it was like he lost a ventricle and an atrium in the left part of his heart. But he quickly came to terms with this feeling, after all, he's Thems (pronounced as terms).
The night to Lhems wedding was a long conversation through which, Lhems replayed all the good memories with Thems, and even told Thems how much she loved him, that she had no choice than to leave him as he was young and not a tad ready. Thems now had that same feeling he had earlier, and this time, it was hard to come in terms with it. Though he mustered the courage to attend the wedding, but it took him weeks or even months to completely deal with this.
Was this a betrayal? If it's not, please what did it sound like? For Thems, it came with a lot of mixed feelings, and to Lhems, she couldn't present the situation directly to Thems as it made her really uneasy.
Lhems is now a happily married woman with a daughter, while Thems is still very single, very very single. He wouldn't have married Lhems shall, but what do you think?
