Education System & The Student

JKB | Hello

Education System & The Student

The education system is the foundational block of a society. It's a bottom-top approach where an individual learns empowerment and strengthens the society, and such a strong society boosts the nation at several indicators - Happiness Index, GDP, Resilience, Productivity, etc. And when education is the driving force, it needs to adapt to the continuous changes that society is going through, For example, COVID-19 surfaced a lot of caveats - be it health care(Front-line health-warriors), moral understandings(compassion), business ethics (in vaccination), etc. War exposes the shortness in technical advancements, military power, and economic resilience, but events like pandemics expose the shortcomings in society and the way it works.

Technological Impacts on System & Students

We must first understand what is the goal of education and how far technology can aid in this. The two important goals for education in a society are - empowerment and understanding. As new research, and studies are being developed, the understanding of such advanced concepts does require a decent aptitude as well. But the concern here is that no students are the same at each understanding level. This is the same reason for which you and I might have scored less in mathematics or more in humanities. I aspire that technology must make the deliverance of education so easy that even a kid who might not have the standard IQ, can comprehend what is being taught.

I don't want the use of AI to be limited to homework completion or aid in last-minute submission of projects. I want it to cover the horizon and the entire life cycle of education - from learning to training to being hired. Implementation of smart learning technology can empower society and prosper the nation within one or two generations.

What Students are up to?

We can't expect that technology will find a way in the course of action, but what we must expect is the gradual implementation of the old methodology of learning and training to newer and better methods. Education policy comes into the picture. Let me elaborate on it with an example.

This is the highlight of recent changes in the Education Policy Of India. The transformational shift from the traditional, conventional way of education delivery to the outcome-based model. It also enabled students to take education in multiple disciplines and streams. It also empowers the student to take a break in their education years and shift to an internship or other discipline. The student will need to pass the examination, not for just a degree but to show seriousness in a particular field. However, we are yet to see the outcomes as this policy was implemented in 2020 and is yet to be fully operational across every school and medium.

Global Outlook & Way Forward

As the topic expects a way forward as well, I want the nations in this world must look at themselves as a part single society. And you must be thinking why I am offering this way forward? My understanding is that demographic patterns across the world are changing rapidly. The nations that were once the driving force are now plateaued by the working and old-age gap.

For example, the working and old age gap is reducing sharply stating that there will be more old, retired citizens that will be dependent on the young working-age population. In such a situation, a nation must look proactively and invest in developing nations whose aspirations are yet to be realized. For example, in India, 65% of the population is working age but the prevalence of lack of skill and institutional training makes them less productive for both the nation and the world.

In such a case, a developed nation can invest in education and R&D benefiting the unskilled population and this population will then find professional avenues in the developed nation, which will lead to stable demographic changes and will create a lot of tax avenues for the developed nation government to serve its retired citizens.

Nations like France, Italy, Germany, Japan, etc, already started to take steps in this direction by reducing litigations in visa accessibility and allowing more scholarships in their universities for foreign students.

Thank you
