Talking about the crime rate in Nigeria among the youths is something I've wanted to talk about, all thanks to the newbie initiative for the privilege.
Youth crime
A lot of youths these days find themselves committing crimes for reasons best known to them from peer pressure, to just the basic need to survive. What are your thought on this, why do you think crime among the youths has been on the increase? And in what ways do you think they can be stopped.
Talking about the increase in crime rate especially internet frauds, kidnapping and cultism mostly carried out by the youths nowadays.
Since poverty has doomed the majority of the people, and most of the youths are unemployed, the rate of theft is increasing whereby making people live in fear of their lives and properties.
Internet fraud
Internet fraud is something I want to lay more emphasis on, cause it's not just the poor kids that do it, talking about the poor kids I don't know the amount of suffering a seventeen years boy has seen that would make him engage in such an act. Then the rich kids, their parents give them anything they want but yet they still go into internet fraud.
Now our youths in our nation associate themselves with different kinds of evil acts just to make the money, I can remember the early part of this year, some youths were caught eating their pups in public and what did the government do about that nothing.
Some youths were also caught taking their bath in a graveyard just for the money, and the government did nothing about it.
In the early part of this year, a lot of girls were used for rituals by their so-called boyfriends, and a lot of girls went missing, some of them going insane after being dropped off by a car, and they become unconscious. It made me scared of going out, even to go out and get something cause the streets are not safe anymore. A lot of things happening around us and the government is doing nothing about it.
The university students without jobs or who come from affluent family even seen flaunting their wealth by driving exotic cars around the campus, hosting parties, and being with expensive gadgets.
Cultism
Cultism is another criminal activity carried out by the youths of our nation most especially on the university campus, Students join cults because cult members confer respect, and recognition and spend lavishly on the campus.
Most later face the consequence of contaminated deadly diseases through the blood oaths during their initiation as a member of the secret cult group. Some might even be killed or have their relatives or loved ones murdered, some might even destroy their careers when caught by the school authorities and expelled from school.
Though some are not blamed for joining such cult groups, because of poverty.
Ways crime can be stopped
Shay, they use to sing" parents listen to your, and the song should be reversed to " children listen to your parents so you'll be a great leader tomorrow"
- Firstly the parents have a vital role to play when it comes to crime, parents should be able to monitor the affairs of their children. Because the home is the first place children get their first education, they learn a lot at home before going to school.
I know parents can't fully control the well-being of their children especially when they've grown to a certain stage but still, parents should be able to tell their children the kind of friends to keep, whom they associate with, and give them reasons why they shouldn't associate with bad friends.
The police should focus on arresting any youth caught indulging in theft and ensuring that they were published by the law for involvement in their crime.
Government should take more interest in education, fund the universities and resuscitate facilities like scholarships. The media should also help in broadcasting the consequence of indulging in any theft to discourage people from involving in any crime.
Lastly, the government should provide job opportunities for the youths because they say" an idle man is a devil's workshop.
