Balancing the Scales: Fair Taxation in a Modern Economy

The rich are stealing from the poor and only making themselves richer is one of many statements that we normally hear from poor people. Growing up as children we were brainwashed with this idea that the rich are doing something bad or illicit to make their money hence they should be generous enough to offer the poor some of their money.

Why do I say this? I am saying we were brainwashed because of the idea behind Robin Hood. Robin Hood is a cartoon which features a young man who grew up in a poor community. As a result, he feels like the rich have too much wealth to spare so he decides with his gang to steal from the rich and give to the poor. As kids, we used to cheer up for Robin Hood because we thought he was doing the right thing. In the cartoon, they always portrayed him as the good guy who thought about what the poor should rightly have. But was this the way?

Now we know better and we know that the rich have as many rights as the poor man thinks that he has. The thing is the rich also struggled for their wealth and as such they should have much right over their wealth as a poor man thinks he has over his own wealth.

The rich should pay a higher tax than the regular citizen has always been propagated by some government aspirants out there. Never have I seen the poor argue for the rich and say that the government have no right to control their wealth as they are always paying so much in taxes.

Yes, the idea that the rich are not doing much when it comes to taxes needs to be stopped as I think it’s a big lie. When it comes to taxes it is calculated based on percentages. The normal person who earns a salary already pays so much when it comes to taxes so what do you think the rich man does to run away from this tax?

You might say that the rich are rich enough to afford a plane ticket and all that but then the rich man pays taxes when he or she buys the plane ticket. Even if that rich man owns a private aircraft the cost of flying that aircraft is not easy. All these amount to hefty amounts of taxes which are slapped on them to pay before they can operate those aircraft.

The percentage tax is calculated based on how much you earn. For example for someone who earns a certain amount your tax is lower than someone who earns maybe 3 to 4x of your salary. Apart from this, there are a lot of other avenues in which their monies are taxed.

For me, I think the rich don’t deserve to pay more in taxes. From where I sit even if the rich are to do something with their wealth it shouldn’t be more tax to the government as we don’t see any valuable thing that they do with the tax that they have accumulated over the years if not only making themselves richer.
