Watching Time Go

During my first year in school, I used to have this lady friend of mine who would always lie about her age because for some reason, she felt she wasn't as old enough as she wanted to be and would always increase her age by 2. So if she was 21 at the time and anyone asked her about her age, she would say she was 23.

And I used to believe her until I saw one of her school documents where it had her real age in it and realized she was lying the whole time... We both had laughed about it and I remember how I would always smile whenever I was in the room and heard her tell that same lie to someone else.

Well six years later, I had spoken to her some few days ago and while we were on the phone, she had reminded me about that whole thing and how she used to lie about it back in the day but now, it was the complete opposite. According to her, she has gotten to an age where she now feels like she's getting old and now has to reduce her age whenever someone asks her how old she is.

It made me laugh as usual but then again it also made me more aware of the fact that we truly were getting older and that with every day that passes, we're slowly becoming the uncles and aunties of the new generation.

Funny enough, I've always had this topic in my mind but I've postponed writing on it until something I saw on tiktok today made me to. I had seen a picture of an actor who used to be very famous way back in the year 2005. If you're Nigerian then I'm sure you must have seen this guy during the time of super story (that's the name of a show back then).

Someone had posted his picture with some really cool background song that made the whole thing feel nostalgic. Looking at that picture and listening to that background song, I found myself reminiscing about back in the day when I still was a kid watching those shows. About how I used to lived there and didn't care about anything else in the world.

The whole thing kinda left a sweet sour taste in my mouth because at one end, it feels good to know we're getting older but at the other end, I miss the good old days and wish I could go back to it.
