"I bestow these upon you, my child."

Everything we are, everything we do, and how we go about our daily lives has been inspired in some way by our forefathers. As much as we define who we are and what we want to become, it is safe to argue that the decisions we make have been influenced in some manner by generational factors.

A child who grows up in an environment that pushes him to the edge of existence due to its harsh properties, such as growing up as an orphan, or in a life of poverty, a sub-par life, or limited access to adequate resources for growth, may form the belief that he or she must never live a life similar to the one they grew up in.

A family established on love, discipline, and morality faces a similar situation. A youngster raised in this type of home is far more likely to exhibit the aforementioned characteristics. The child is likely to grow into a man (or woman) who bases his or her principles on such an upbringing.

There are things that are passed down from generation to generation. Some are intentional, while others are just picked up by the next generation. Some generations are blessed to have had people that we could as well call "legends", others not so much. And as we have earlier established, these traits tend to affect and influence the direction of the next generation.

I am a young man who has yet to find a mate with whom to spend the rest of my life. Nonetheless, I have considered how I would like to affect the generation following me. It is not necessarily only the kids that I would birth from my own loins, but young lives that could be impacted by me, in any way possible.

If I could give the next generation three things, it would be these:

ᴇᴛʜɪᴄs

Every human behavior is built on the foundation of their mindset. What they believe to be correct or incorrect influences their choices and decisions.

The world is not in its best form. It could be better. And one of the ways that it can be better is if more and more people come to understand ethics in dealing with people. Handing down ethics to the next generation is something that I consider valuable and important.

Fundamental ethical principles include:

  • Respect for others.
  • Sincerity and secrecy.
  • Generosity
  • Absence of maleficence.

Having this in the minds of future generations will undoubtedly make the planet a better place.

ᴅɪsᴄɪᴘʟɪɴᴇ

Everybody aspires and desires. At some point in their lives, everyone wishes they could be something, someone, or somewhere. It is the innate desire of the human intellect to "becoming." However, no one ever gets to their destination by daydreaming.

To achieve your goals, you must work in accordance. And self-discipline will be required to get there. It is a virtue that has become required for anybody who wishes to become what they seek.

The ability to be disciplined is essential for future generations to become valourous men and women. It is critical that they comprehend and internalize this concept.

ɢʀᴀᴛɪᴛᴜᴅᴇ

Attitude is everything. How we respond to situations actually determines our stance in certain circumstances. The right attitude always gets one far. And one that can not be done without is "gratitude."

It is the attribute that shows thankfulness and content. It is having the positive energy that one needs to get through life. It is a personality that has been proven to pave the way for one.

Like the old "half-empty, half-full glass cup" analogy, the perspective through which you look at life's pattern determines your attitude, and in turn, sets a path on which one will follow.

A heart of grattide is a fragrance that opens the door for more. We always need to be grateful for the things we have and the things we do not have. The need to be thankful and glad for the big and small things, and the ones in-between, is a necessity for having the right mindset to thrive in this life. The generations to come need to have this.

With this little essay of mine that I have shared with you, I would like to leave you with this gentle quote to encapsulate all that I mean to say:
