Necessary Soft Skills For Excelling in the Job Market

Growing up, I was told to go to school, enter university, and graduate and there would be a job waiting, but unfortunately, education is more than that, especially on the job market. After graduation, I discovered so many companies in my country ain’t really after only what certification we have but also major skills alongside the certification. Nigeria is a country with a large population, so only the outstanding people, either by High connections, experience, or professionalism tend to get employed. It took me time to understand this aspect of the economy.

Experience has taught me and developed me to adapt to various sectors of the job domains to achieve professionalism and work ethics. There are some major softskills I have discovered that certification would be incomplete without having them. Some of these include

  • Excellent Communication; Having Good and excellent communication skills makes you outstanding than the others. For example, jobs like customer relations, banks, Real estate, or another related jobs, require excellent communication skills and it makes one more outstanding than the others. Communication is very important in job domains.

  • leadership; Having The Qualities of a Leader makes us outstanding to others. Being a leader does not necessarily mean controlling someone or having dominion over someone but a good leader is someone who builds trust, and integrity, inspires, motivates, and sets the positive direction for the benefit of the audience, teams, or organizations. This Quality skill is very important in the job market because it helps to embrace responsibility and adapt innovative aspects to the success of the job.

  • Time Management; Every Job requires these skills; Every job requires this skill. Time management is very important to the organization. Having this skill helps to prioritize tasks or team works under a scheduled time before the deadline. Time management skill helps the job to be done within a set period.

  • Teamwork; Teamwork Work is very important in the job domain. Although not all jobs require teamwork, if need be, we need to maintain the ability to work in a team, when we work in a team, ideas are not single-handed taken, and we must learn to communicate with the team on various aspects to do to promote the task to be completed.

  • Problem Solving Skill; Having the intelligence and understanding of the job makes us understand the job easily. This skill is important in every job. Having this skill about the job, helps us understand and give possible solutions to the source of the problem in the job. Most interviews often ask questions centered around this domain or aspect.

  • Creativity; Being Able to create New Ideas for the success of the job makes us outstanding for the job. Creativity is one of the major characteristics of what the job market demands. We must be creative and innovative in new ideas to carry out our task and be successful in it.

Presently, I am taking a course on Data Science and Python to develop my present professionalism and work ethic, to be able to adapt to these new job opportunities. Most jobs presently are centered around the Computeing aspect and less physical stress. I hope to learn other skills and soft skills to help my personal growth and development.
