Humility: Maintaining A Virtue That Promotes Growth

People are built up with different characters, some might see it as their personality, but some attitudes will not make us have a good relationship with the people around us. In our daily lives, we come across different kinds of people, and we interact with them and spend moments together, at some point in time, we wish to always stay with them because of the virtue they possess, and we can also come across some people In life that we'll wish we never cross path with them. That's life, everyone will not always be the same, but it's important to possess a virtue that will make you have a good interaction with the people around you.

One of the virtues I always want to see in person is humility, but the majority of times, people mistake humility for stupidity, they see it as a sign of weakness, They believe that will lose their respect, but the fact is that humility brings more respect to us. When a person is humble, they'll always want to listen to others and to understand their view, rather than prove themselves, and that's one of the virtues of a good leader because it will promote growth in society. I find it difficult to deal with people that lack humility because they believe they know everything, and they'll never accept their mistakes. No one is perfect, and we are bound to make mistakes, but an arrogant person will never recognize their flaws, because they think they are better, hence there won't be room for improvement.

I have a friend with whom I was working with before I got admission into university, that was 3 years ago. I called her my friend because we are working in the same place, but I find it difficult to deal with her. She's the kind of person who doesn't listen to correction, she's so proud and anyone she insults anyone who tries to confront her, she only comports herself when the boss is around. There was a day she was watching a movie on her phone while we had customers to attend to, She felt less concerned and too big to stand up because she felt that others would attend to the customer, I had to tell her was around but she shunned me not call her name, I felt embarrassed in front of the customer.

I felt hurt that day, but I acted as if nothing happened, Deep within me, I vowed not to interfere in anything she was doing because that's not the first time, but the last one made me cut ties with her because she felt no one can correct her and she's not even ready to change. Being proud is a disease that needs a cure, and if care is not taken, it will lead to one downfall, just like a popular adage. Since she believed she was too big, No one cared to correct her, and it continued that way, till the boss came to the office unexpectedly, and she was caught in the act of what I corrected her for, to cut the story short, she was sacked because of her arrogance and she can't blame anyone for her misfortune.

One thing that baffled me was the way she left without asking for forgiveness, had it been she humbled herself to beg for forgiveness, the woman might forgive her because she's a very good woman, but that day, she picked her bag, and she left without saying a word to our boss, because she felt too big to beg for forgiveness, anyways that's was the last day I set my eyes on her, and I don't ever want to meet someone like her. If I were to be the boss, I might probably forgive her if she had humbled herself to beg for forgiveness. Humility goes a long way in life, there's nothing bad in saying "I am sorry", Apologizing after making a mistake will not remove a strand of hair from our body, it will only promote growth and peace. Being humble will make us work on our flaws and we'll earn more respect from people.
