The Weight Of Sacrifice

The current hive learners topic reminds me of a series I watched not quite long titled "The Hundred" In a short recap, it's about a group of survivors who survived the earth after radiation spread across the planet and happens to build a territory in space called "the ark" where they lived and tried to adapt, people who disobeyed were floated, imagine that, at a point, there was a limited amount of supplies for the survivors after residing in the space for about a hundred years, the most essential supply being the oxygen supply they needed to breathe at a point, they were not sure whether the earth had healed and was survivable by humans, so they sent a hundred juvenile kids to earth to find out answers, still, they were short of supplies and had no other choice than to unlifen a few more hundred, which was a very difficult decision for the chancellor of the ark to make, in fact, he decided to be a part of the people that would ve deprived of oxygen for the survival of others. Surprisingly to him, when the news of the limited oxygen leaked, instead of riot, a lot of the citizens of the ark willingly came forward to sacrifice themselves, for mankind to survive and hopefully return to earth.

Though I haven't completed the series, a bad habit of mine, I guess I will have to continue from where I stopped. Now back to the topic, making a huge decision such as sacrificing the lives of some for the greater good of others or choosing to allow everyone to suffer is never an easy decision either way, we can't really say one is all good or bad, no matter the purpose, because the truth still remains that a percentage of people still suffers a loss, whether the percentage of sacrifice is brought to the most minimal number, bad is still bad, in the series I just slightly recapped, though the volunteers made that choice for the sake of their loved ones, yet, their loved ones still suffers their loss. I never pray to be in such a position, I don't have a right to anyone's life, just like in the movie, the best I could do is to volunteer to be sacrificed for the greater good, because, everyone still ends up dead whether now or many years later, just that this current sacrifice, helps saves many, though difficult choice as it is, it's the one I would make at this point.

It was difficult for the chancellor in the movie to make the decision of ending many lives even without their knowledge for the sake of others, I believe that have would been my exact reaction if faced with such a situation, fortunately, or unfortunately, the burden of making such decision was lifted off his shoulders when the volunteers choose to sacrificed themselves.

I would end this post by stating that, may else never find ourselves in such difficult situations, ever!
