This is my entry for week 80 edition 2 which focuses on terrifying tale. I think this is a timely theme looking at the present state of my dear country Nigeria. Immediately I saw this theme, some thoughts started running through my heart. I decided to title it how I was terrified.
From my perspective terrify simply means to be extremely fearful, or to be very frightened. It also implies to be scared or afraid or shocked or being worried.
There are many causes of reasons why people get terrified. I realised that most people are afraid of the unknown. This unknown could be the future. What would become of me in few years to come? Sometimes people judges themselves based on their present condition and suddenly become worried about how their destination could be.
Also fear could be as a result of lack. Just like the present condition of things in Nigeria where the economy is decaying and the rate of suffering is just on the increase. People find it very difficult to even take two meals per day. This pauses lots of Fear in the heart and minds of the people.
YES I have been terrified so many times without number. I think fear is part of the way of life but the most important thing is what do you do when confronted with terrific situation? I think by default every human being is born with the spirit of Fear but it's worked upon in the cause of life's journey.
I can never be in a rush to forget about this terrific situation that really dealt with me. It all happened when I was still in secondary at the junior category where I was staying with my elder brother at a boy's quarter. One faithful night as we were all enjoying our sleep at about 1am suddenly we started hearing sporadic gun shots around our area. When we quietly listened behold it was at the main flat.
Men...I have never had such experience in my life till date. As they were trying to ransacked the building I started fidgeting hmmmmm literally you could see my legs shaking and I almost urinated in my trouser because of the situation. Different millions of thoughts crept into my mind then as a young man. Could this be my final night? How would I escape this? I looked through the window hmmm it was facing the piggery house. If I open and jump now these pigs will start crying which will drag their attention quickly.
My breath was high and the confusion was just accelerating. I closed my eyes and started praying perhaps if death caught up with me, I will gladly rest well with my creator. Kash!!! What a Terrific situation for me???. After about one hour they all ran away then the policemen came around hmmmm that's Nigerian security personnel for you.
The joy is that no life was lost instead the thieves left their cap, torch light in the main flat.
Terrific moments are bound to happen but one's response to it matters alot. I have learnt from the dreaded situation never to give up on my God and I should always be positive and never be in rush to look for escape route. I would have jumped through the window and that would have caused more troubles for me.
Thank God for the deliverance.
