There are a lot of memorable moments in life, moments we wish could last forever but time has a way of working out wonders. most of my memorable moments are acquired during my days in school but there was one in particular that was extremely joyful not because of the merriment of the event but what it meant to me or student in general. Before the final year exam in most universities and polytechnics in Nigeria, a week is dedicated to the students to celebrate their days as final year student. this week is called FYB WEEK* A lot of preparations are put in place to make this event memorable because it is a one time thing.
Planning committees are selected among students in each department, a group of students that will be in charge of the planning process. there responsibility is to put things in place for the benefit of the entire department, a specific amount of money is expected to be contributed by each student, this money is used to finance the materials and resources needed for the FWB week. though it is not compulsory to pay but there are benefits attached to those who make the payment, you wouldn't want to be left out of the merriment.
My department FYB week committee
In order to make this event fun and memorable, some competitions are organised by the FYB week planning committee. in my department, we were randomly shared into groups, each group is expected to compete against each other throughout the FYB week. Everyday of the week has a specific competition attached to it. I was quite popular in my department, at least academically. I was not part of the planning committee for the FYB week but in my group when it comes to the academic aspect of the competition which involves debate, I stood for my group and I won 😅. probably because the topic wasn't the regular kind of topic student are usually interested in, the topic was about "Risk and benefits involved in investing in crypto currency" I didn't really know much about crypto currency then compared to now but in those days I was a little familiar with some Crypto currency related tips thanks to hive, so that gave me the upper hand in the competition.
The FYB week is more than just debate, it also involves other competitions such as football, board games, music and food competition. I could have participated in the board game but that day I wasn't present due to an unforeseen circumstances but on the day of the football competition I was around but not on the field 😂. I'm a lot of things but not a footballer. I was just there to watch the match and also went around and took some pictures. No one knew I couldn't play because I look fit but I kept on giving them the excuse that I have an injury and also I wasn't putting on any jersey. I wouldn't want them to know how vulnerable I'm on the field😅.
FYB WEEK JERSEY DAY but i wasn't putting on any jersey 😂
On the day of the football competition my group was not that Lucky, we were beaten in the semi final by a group filled with a lot of muscular individuals😂. I was glad that I didn't attempt to play on the field because those that played, some of them sustained injury. there were a lot of grown up individuals on the field, it was like battle of titans😂. I was part of the medic team for my group, at least that is something I'm good at. the funny part was I consumed more glucose than the injured players😅.
The last day of the competition was the food competition which took place on Friday, I was also a spectator because those guys that participated in the competition were not ordinary human beings. the meal was not the issue but the quantity of it, they were served a whole 500g spaghetti each with two eggs and a coke. My group won the food competition, it was a guy named bukky that represented my group. Sometimes when I think about moment I'm still amazed by how he was able to consume what he was served, I'm sure he didn't shew before swallowing 😅.
Our department group picture, if you could find me in there indicate in the comment section. There is a reward for you🤗
It has been a year and some weeks since I participated in the FYB WEEK competition but I can still remember the details like it was yesterday. I guess that was the point of the event, to make it memorable. one of the reasons why I participated in some of the competition organised for the FYB week despite not being the outdoor kind of person. it was because I learnt that in life there are some memories that is needed to be acquired, eventually those days will pass and all that will be left will just be memories.
