Goodbye

A doctor once said to me, Alzheimer's can also be used to say a long farewell.
Alzheimer's strips you of your dignity and pride in life,
The disease is so horrible, the doctor told us.
Nurses told us it makes you act like a child.
We love our mother so much,
But she is not the same as before.

Everything the doctors said were wrong, our mother pride or dignity can't be taken away.
Just because we bathe her, dress her, love her doesn't mean she lose her dignity.
I refuse, she did everything herself and more for us.

The nurses were worried about mom going back to childhood memories.
Who would love to go back to be a child again?
The memory of that beautiful dress given to you by Grandma,
The memory of the little house you played and grew in,
The memory of that special friend you have missed.
So maybe going back to childhood again wasn't so bad after all.

We thought she has changed, that's the least thought.
Alzheimer's can never change mom's love.
Mom's love will always remain the same.
Maybe the doctor was right.
Alzheimer's can be a word for long goodbye.

We thank God for adding extra time to you.
Time we return all the love and honor to you like you did us.
Goodbye for now mother, but only for a short time.
Heaven has no farewell, but only eternity.
