Things I would leave for my next generation

The hustle and bustle of life is just in fulfilment of one basic goal — catering for the next generation. Many of us were not lucky enough to get the path set out by our parents, as a result, we are left to figure it out ourselves.

Of course, this is never a weakness but a motivation to rewrite the story for the generations to come. So far in this journey, one consistent source of motivation has been the desire to make provisions for those things my parents couldn't provide for me. There are a lot of things that I desire to leave for my next generation, but for the sake of this contest, I would be talking about the top three on my list.

The first thing that I must leave for my next generation is COMFORT

Comfort in this context entails having access to the basic rudiments of life. Things like Education; In my family, we are six in number — two girls and four boys. However, only two — my immediate elder sister and myself, were able to attain university education — thanks to the efforts of my siblings. Looking back, it is my priority to make sure that the next generation of the Tagbo's family not only have access to education but quality Education. It won't just be about my generation but that of my siblings.

The second thing that falls under this section is Wealth; I desire not excess wealth but that, that would give the next generation a comfortable life. Their basic needs should be catered for, be it flood, clothing, house, and so on. I desire to create a generational wealth not just for the family but also for the less privileged.

The second thing that I desire to leave is Love for Family and Humanity.

Though my parents weren't blessed with financial wealth, they were exceptionally endowed with societal values, and they did exceptionally in bringing us up. They made sure it became part of our lives. One major value that they thought is to Love one another. The thought is the value of unity among families, and it has helped us in so many ways. We do things as one, execute projects together and fight enemies together — the major reason for the success of the family so far.

Therefore, sustaining that love for one another, amongst the coming generation is compulsory. I have benefitted from the importance of love in the family, and I would make sure generations to come would enjoy that too. I won't just be teaching them to love themselves but also to love humanity in general. In order to sustain peace on earth, we are to love and care for one another more. It is very important for the coexistence of tribes, faith, colour and nations.

The last on the list is Culture

Then in school, we were taught that culture simply means people's way of life. It is the identity and origin of the people,

I come from a part of Nigeria — thesouth-eastern part, popularly known as the Igbos, that is endowed with lovely ways of living. We are known for so many things; the language, festivals, and so on.

However, the current trend shows that our culture is progressively dying out amongst the people — especially the young generation. As a result, I see it as my responsibility to imbibe in the next generation those lovely cultures of the Igbos. As a matter of fact, the Igbo language would be the only means of communication at home. The Igbo attires would be worn more often and other things.

The next generation must know that their culture is their heritage, their identity and their ways of life — as the definition says.

In summary, I desire to leave a lot for the next generation, but the aforementioned ones give the summary of it all.
