An Ode for a Treasured Friend

The year 2023 had been a rough year for me with regards to health circumstances in my family.

First of all, the chronic ailment of my mother-in-law took various shapes and drove her into the conditions where it became arduous for us to take immediate decisions about her medical condition such as which doctor to visit and which treatment to pursue.

With regard to her illness, some visits to hospitals were seriously disappointing where we found nothing but ignorance and ill-behaviour from the staff. I remember the nigh when we kept on shifting her from one hospital to the other in search of the treatment for the excessive rectal bleeding but we neither find any interim solution nor any clear guidance about the course of action for her treatment.

Along with my mother-in-law, both of my sons faced several health issues through out the year. My younger one has childhood asthma, so his health is always compromised, but this year my elder one also competed with him. Over the course of the year both the boys suffered from Scabies, chicken pox, Hepatitis A (Jaundice) and ear infections. The elder boy was also diagnosed with Molluscum contagiosum.

Molluscum contagiosum is a viral infection in which small lesions are formed on the surface of skin. My son had them on his face. The infection is treated via a surgical procedure in which a needle is used to rupture each individual lesion.

Oh my God! It was a terrifying experience. Within a minute of the procedure, my son started twisting his limbs and immediately got fainted. We immediately shifted him to the emergency ward. The doctors in the emergency ward started yelling at me as if I was an irresponsible and ignorant mother who does no care of her children. Thankfully, a saviour reached there to save me from those inhumane so-called doctors.

Lastly, I myself suffered from several health related problems such as heel pain, generalized weakness, fatigue, gastric problems and like. Only when I sprained my foot I discovered the underlying causes of the ailments I had. I was suffering from Hypothyroidism which alleviated planter fasciitis produced due to heel spur. The other medical conditions were also the symptom of this major problem.

In the midst of these circumstances, I felt truly blessed to have a genuinely loving and compassionate person in my life. I have known her for nearly twenty years and I have experienced nothing but boundless kindness, unwavering support and enduring love from her.

Our friendship began during my school years. We were together in college. Then our academic pathways parted. She became a medical student and I opted for social sciences. I got married earlier and became busier in my life.

Though the frequency of our communication decreased yet it didn’t affect our relationship. It remained pure and strong. I often say true relations are never about how frequently we connect but how genuinely we connect when we get the opportunity to. Her relation with me exemplifies the truth.

Today she is a doctor having job at a hospital, and a mother of two young kids. Despite having a tough family and professional life she never refused to answer my queries. She was always there to respond whenever I needed her.

Regarding my mother-in-law’s condition I reached out to her even during late hours, and she replied promptly and graciously.

Several times I visited the hospital and she not only took me to doctors of the concerned departments but also stayed with me during the check up. The saviour I mentioned above who reached in the emergency ward to save me from the rude doctors was She.

These days I am on medication for Hypothyroidism. The ailment takes long to be treated. It requires continual blood tests and visit to the doctor. Because of Her I am able to escape the challenges and complexities of frequent hospital visits. I just share my blood report with her. After consultation with her senior she recommends me the adjusted dose.

I am sure she doesn’t perceive these favors significant yet I find myself overwhelmed with a profound sense of gratitude and genuine appreciation. Her selfless acts may seem routine to her but they are a beacon of compassion in the storm of life.

I cannot tag her here as she is not on Hive. Nevertheless I will sure share the blog with her after publication to let her know how special she is and how grateful I have been to her. I want to tell her,

“My dear friend, you are a gem. You are one of the greatest blessings God has bestowed me with.

I love you and I am thankful to you for your boundless kindness and selfless support.
